It is possible to move a Sky dish yourself ? ie just move it to another wall on the house and just point it in the same direction as before ? I guess it would take a while to get it pointing in the right direction but how precise does it have to be ?
It has to be fairly precise but its not hard to do. You need a compass tho.
Assuming its going from one flat wall to another then the vertical angle should remain about right. Either line it up with something on the horizon that it points at or get the angles of the internet. Move it and turn telly on. somewhere there is a bit in the menu for transmission strength. use this and trial and error to get it dead right. I got a better signal that the techs who installed it could be bothered to ( not for me I hasten to add - I'd never put a penny in that twunts pocket)
Cool, I thought it should not be too hard, I can easily sus where it points now, its going to be at the same height so should be OK.
I dont support you know if the wire thats used is usual coax ? ie something I can get locally ? As it might need extending.

Try not to move the elevation of the dish when you take it down
IIRC its a high grade co ax. Sold in B&Q
YOu have to get the dish within a few degrees.
it's quite tricky to get spot on - it depends where you are in country and which satalite you point it at - you can get the info off the web google sky satalites - you can buy a signal strength meter from maplins for about 28 pounds (used to be able to) that go's between coax and dish. Could probably do it yourself with a bit of faffing - if the walls are at same angle (pointing in same direction) and you get it the same height it won't be too far out - but i could be wrong! (i know this as i got a bollocking from some sky guy as he thought i'd moved the dish!)

The height wont make any difference as long as it's clearing anything in line of sight to the satellite - after all, the satellite is 36,000 Km high so a meter here or there is insignificant
Too late for today but if you get stuck for the angle - knock a stick in the ground & the shadow it casts at 11:08 BST is the direction of the bird you want.
TBH on a wall on the same building facing the same way, as long as you only take the mounting bolts out of the wall & leave all the adjustment screws where they are - 4 out of 5 times it'll work OK without any other adjustments.

Its on the left hand side of the house, near the front wall facing forwards, I want to move it to the right hand side in the same was, on the end facing forwards, So will have to turn the disk round but should be able to keep the angle the same. I am getting BT vision very soon anyway so will bin it once thats in....
unless that dish is facing straight out, I think you'll have issues as on the other side it will have the wall in line of sight
As it is now its right on the corner, facing straight ahead, just mounted on the side wall. So it should not have line of sight issues and its going to be the same, just on the other side (does that make sense ?)
