We will be in touch
I was riding home, in the dark last night, and my bike lights on B roads don't really do a great job. Started to wonder if helmet lights would solve this, and if it was legal?
Helmets are slippery (go on then.....s**** away) so suggestions?
Like you say helmets are slippery (ok fnarr, fnarr) so offer no grip so the light will probably fly of at speed at no risk to you but posing some considerable danger to anyone behind you. plus i doubt if any kind of head torch will be any better than your bike light, weedy as it might seem. I'd be more inclined to checking over or upgrading the bikes lighting. What is it?
Ducati Mutley
But I was thinking in terms of looking in the direction of a sharp corner, whilst my lights point towards the hedges...
HID upgrades seem to be the only thing available at the moment, looking at the BMW forum quite a few riders seem to have went down this line.
but they will still point into the hedge, however bright they are....so it just seems like a good idea....but it would mean integrating them into a helmet.
Wouldn't want to be using any adhesive to stick anything on top of a good helmet - adhesive would almost certainly attack the resin in a helmet and make it brittle.
Also anything protruding from a helmet could snag on the ground and rotate the head un-neccesarily in the event of an off - guess i would prefer to be riding a fair bit slower than have either of the two first options.
i do agree that adaptive headlights would be a good idea - BMW have them on one of the 1600's
I've seen that bike. It scares me 😯
Its huuuuuuuuge! Its sooooooo fast, and probably doesn't like cities.
Not my cuppa, but it is a clever headlight.
I can think of a couple of " head torches " that are significantly better than most auto lights
but what about controling it like not blinding other road users.
I wondered about that too, but it would only need to be dipped strength only in regards to Lumens, and if it was mounted in a way that didn't offer neck twisting issues in an off, it could be reliant upon a flood of the beam pattern rather than aiming a spot. If that makes sense....
It could be minimal like your liberator, and mount from the chin bar possibly?
Andy, how could it mount to a chin bar without interfering with the visor?
Trout - looking forward to my wifes birthday present to me - bargain 😉
Secondary spot/s mounted to fork somehow thus at least turning with steering?
I'm thinking on the base of the helmet. The only potential issue then would be glare from the screen. Helmets these days have integrated batteries and bluetooth kits, so I can't see why this isnt possible.

searching....
John watch out for the postie tomorrow then .
and even put a little glow paint inside seeing as its your Bday
Jack, you tend to be looking through the bend before you turn the handlebars, so not much use having them on the forks.
Trout - cheers mate, looking forward to comparing it to my Lumi's. The lads i ride with don't know i'm getting a new pressie!!
Helmet lights are used in enduros that include night sections. Mostly a US thing though, but they're available. Easier to mount on an off-road helmet as you have a peak and associated mounting screws.
You could just run a secondary light on the bars/fairing. I mounted my mountainbike lights to me elephant.
Andy, you want the HID kit. I got mine from HIDs4u, based down in Southampton. I got a mate to fit them though - bit of cutting required.
I have mine on the low beam only, which is sufficient. I have 2 additional lights for highbeam, and with them on as well, it really is fantastic.
Having a light on your head is not a good idea on a m/bike, as the speeds you'll be travelling at, you dont want to be adjusting your head and therefore vision to not blind oncoming traffic.
Fine off road, but not on road
Apologies for the hijack...
I'm tempted with one of these kits for my Blackbird. Do they fit to the existing switchgear?
I'm currently riding with Philips Xtreme bulbs - and they were a revelation when fitted. I'm assuming the HIDs will be better still?
All kinds of ways you can wire them.
A relay on the output of the high beam wire could be used to trigger the spots. Just add a switch so enable the spots (when the high beam is on).
I added a Vision X LED to my scooter for country roads. Less faff than HID and not blinding to other people as you are not damaging or compromising reflectors designed for a tungsten source.
www.adventurespec.com supply them.
I shall look at the Ducatisti forum, and see where this gets me
