Inspired by the super car thread and seeing as some think a classic car is the same as a supercar. 🙄
And I wanted to post a couple of pictures of these.

There's a couple for me which I would like and have always liked since I was young. These being the Merc 300SL and the e-type convertible.

SEriously, there are many, there spring to mind:

The 365 from Miami Vice.
LP400 unspoilered
Montreal
203 soft top
DS
Khamsin
P1800
3.0CSL

But the winner is the early 911 or 912.

Passed up on a 912 about 20 years ago.
Passed up on a Lotus Europa too as I didn't have a workshop to restore.

midlife, my dad had a 3000 in that colour when I was a nipper. He sold it to get a landrover and a new roof on the barn. Needs must!
30 years later he got this one:

And the original Ford GT...this will be a Lottery purchase:

My Dad has four of these in various stages of delapidation / restoration..... The Triumph Razor Edge. Everything above the chassis is made of wood inside - the rot kills most of them 🙁

Almost bought a Facel Vega in 1978. It was only £1500! About a years salary for me then. That and the weeds growing up through the floor plan didn't put me off. It was the insurance. Could only get quote in blocks of three months and it amounted to £1400 a year for third party!!!!

Most beautiful classic car?

Pick a Delahaye. Any Delahaye. They're all gorgeous. I picked this one because it looks like it has a great big bushy moustache:

It's Citroen and Bristol for me.

Citroen were the only car makers brave enough to design and manufacture cars that gave you the future today.

And a Bristol Six series is a wonderful, marvellous anachronism that I'd buy in a minute if I ever became seriously rich.

No trip to London is ever complete without visits to their showroon, Fred Warrs Harley dealership, Condor Cycles and Greys of Westmister Nikon emporium.

Could some kiind soul please post a nice pair of Bristols for me?
A 403 and a 6 series would be nice, ta.

Did it have a 1500cc motor? NO!
Did it have o/drive? NO!
Best my arse...Nicer looking, OK, I might have to concede this one... Loads of fun though...
On the TR side my cousin and his brother in law both renovated TR6s, beautiful cars.

1500 motor was de-tuned for US legislation 1300 motor is actually more bhp in standard form (mine is far from standard but still 1300). Mine has had overdive though is currently running a marina box (better ratios)

TR6's are lovely TR4's are MUCH prettier 😉

Don Simon - My dad has recently built up what he calls his 're-imagining' of a Frog-Eye Sprite.

He knew that the Frog-Eye and the Midget were essentially the same car under the skin so - armed with 30yrs of building, restoring and racing Midgets - he modified an old Midget into his fave incarnation of the Frog-Eye.

Haven't had a ride in it yet, but my mates kids (who live just down the road) are obsessed with the strange man who is seen obsessively polishing the little red racing car! 😆

I've had my spit 20 years and before its second rebuild (!) I had a 2 litre inline 6 motor from a gt6 in it for a while and had the bonnet off a mk1 gt6 to fit it under, same grille and low bumper mounting as the spitfire4. Very pretty. Spitfire4 did look like they threw a load of light lenses at the back tho! MK3 is much cleaner 😉

They're all beautiful.

In all the years of browsing STW probably never seen a truer word spoken (er...typed?)

But the winner is the early 911 or 912.

+1

I also think the sunbeam tiger was extremely pretty, especially the Shelby fettled version (can't find a working pic).

This for best supercar and best classic car. Ferrari don't always get it right but they hit the jackpot with the F40:

In all honesty I like them both, they were different and the Mk4 was ushering a new era (at least they didn't go for the MG Midget plastic trim, je, je!). The GT6 were nice but I preferred the rag top at the time and my insurance man agreed with me. To hear of a 2L shoehorned into a Spit is nice. I had previously tried to insure an MGB Roadster unsuccessfully. More or less at the same time we had a MGB GT V8 Costello knocking around the house, now there was a beast.
Classic cars are ace.

Spitfire4 is different to a MKIV (its like the mk1 the "4" stands for four cylinder)

I had a 1500 (MKIV shape) for a bit, a friend bought it off me and managed to turn it over and slide it upside down along the A30 he escaped without a scratch, god knows how even the steering wheel was bent over at the top! His passenger to this day has a scar on his forehead he says he scuffed his head momentarily because his hands were getting really hot against the vinyl of the roof sliding along the road and he let go!

Not posting this as a contender, just showing you what I had. In this colour as well. Cosmetically the only difference between this and the MK3 was that the bumper was lower, and not legal in the US, IIRC.

Thats the one oldgit, my MK1 GT6 bonnet was like that but with a big-ass bulge instead of the stamped in stripe - very nice.

Cosmetically the only difference between this and the MK3 was that the bumper was lower

#Herald based Triumph pedant mode on# The MK3 grille was one piece and didn't have the spar up the middle, and the last MK3's had neater rear lights with a reversing light in the middle instead of the two seperate ones by the indicators 😉 #Herald based Triumph pedant mode off#
I've toyed with turning mine in to a works Macau copy like this
