I've never understood why they dont give the money to the people instead of the banks?

Because the only mechanism to do that is through creating jobs to provide services and build infrastructure, and that goes against the prevailing right wing cut cut cut mantra.

bit I dont get. Lessons learned and all that.

I've never understood why they dont give the money to the people instead of the banks?

Saw one of the BBC programs the other night where the presenter stated that if the gov had handed out the bailout cash to each household, each one would have received ~22k. Not sure how truthful that statement is but it puts things into perspective!

Does seem completely pointless, banks get bigger reserves, demand stays just as low as it was and nothing actually changes.

footflaps, thats the thing, my understanding is that financial institutions dont want stability. The markets need to shift about (up or down, dosnt really matter) to generate cash. Like you said, nothing really changes.

The EU are not right wing. Gordon Brown was not right wing. This isn't a left/right thing.
