Hi

have used Buffalo pertex and was very impressed - but did think outer would rip easily

What are Montane like - and any other alternatives.

thanks

If you're just referring to Pertex shells then they're all pretty much the same and great unless it's bouncing down - compact, light, breathable, windproof and cheap enough to wreck without getting too upset. I got a Montane Lightspeed for about thirty quid and it's a great cut for biking and walking for a decent part of the year.

If you mean the Montane fibre pile and pertex smock (similar to a Buffalo), I've got one and it is superb for winter walking, but probably too warm for biking.

IME pertex is not "breathable" enough to be of any use in decreasing sweat when cycling, although that goes for all the fabrics I've tried bar windstopper (I've not tried expensive new fancy fabrics though)
