Will be any good or just as dull as last week, only hope is that they will be lapping backmarkers in about 10 laps.

not usually a great race in terms of overtaking, but always good for a few crashes. Bit of a shitter about JB, sounds like the team balls'd it up

Lol. I'm no fan of Schumi but did enjoy his move on Alonso at the end. Alonso will have hated that! Guess he should have read the rules (at least assuming Brundle is right) which MS clearly had.

EDIT Damon hill on the committe to review that. Perfect 🙂

Monaco always have been difficult for passing, great win for Webber though.

Anyway, F1 still not as good as motogp which it's on next week, cant wait 8)

I love virtually any F1 race, esp Monaco, so that was great for me.

Some bad news in so much as rain was originally forecast so I had a long odds punt on Jenson Button, who promtly made it about four miles.

On the other hand I also got great odds on Mark Webber for WDC before the season started, so I might end up happy after all. Bed Bull are going to slaughter them in Turkey, and more or less everywhere else for that matter, so its a straight fight with Vettel.

Schumacher given penalty! Ridiculous. I hope Mercedes appeal.

"Article 40.13 of the Formula 1 sporting regulation states: "If the race ends while the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking.""

The race didn't end with the safety car deployed. The safety car came in before the end of the last lap not "at the end of the last lap".

Shame cos it was a great opportunistic move.

Not ridiculous really. They should not have advised that the safety car was coming in, fair enough, because it was only "coming in" to let the cars take the flag in the manner described in the rule. In other words it wasn't coming in in the conventional sense. Neither should they have signalled green. Oh, ok, it is a bit of a silly situation. I think they should just reverse the places, not demote him to 12th, which is the outrageous bit. But hey - Damon Hill gets his revenge!

For me I would imagine that rule was written to mean if the safety car stays out for the entire last lap i.e. crosses the finish line with the F1 cars in tow.
I doubt it was written to be ambiguous.
So for me it is a stretch to interpret it so harshly.
It does reek of Hill's revenge.

Oh well, still enjoyed the cheeky move.

The rule as written there clearly means that they will pull the safety car in and let them take the flag. I reckon the idea is that they do so but under yellow conditions (but with no car), but they cocked up by flagging green.

Forgot to mention earlier - where are all those misguided folk who called Webber "talentless"? He he.

does seem that the safety car did as described in the rules - to come in and the cars proceed to the line to take the chequered flag (without overtaking).

from the shots that Ross Brawn showed to Ted at the end of the race I (as a flag marshal) would be dubious of the over take in a normal clubbie - MS was overtaking before passing the green flag, but with the effective line they can overtake after being before the flag point i guess that was ok.

But the relevant rule seems to be a fudge that hadnt been sorted properly after the SC rules changes this year. and once again it comes down to drivers/team knowing the rules and how to take advantage.
I bet Mr. Hill will be smiling tonight that such a decision can be taken without a hint of bias.

That's true. The rule would make sense with the old rule of not overtaking before crossing the start/finish line.
But since it's a new rule and the rulebook hasn't been properly updated the penalty is way over the top.

if anyone is suffering from insomnia and wants a good sleep, then the F1 regs can be found here

I think that on balance now, MS did break the rules but there was a cock up in showing green. Demoting him the place would have been fairer IMO.

there person showing green flags is only doing so, because Race Control told him/her too.

Flag instructions are issued to marshals trackside via radio.
This is so the system works weither they are in the UK or Australia with marshals who do regular motorsport events or somewhere like Hungary, Abu Dhabi or China, where the GP is the first time the marshals are on the bank.

Well thanks for that LS, but I doubt there are any people who think that marshalls just go free range and flag away on their own whim.

It seems a bit daft - presumably the whole idea is that the field crosses the line without the safety car spoiling the snapshot on the evening news, but in actuality they are running under "yellow", only fast. Its a bit indefensible on safety grounds, and a punishment can't logically be beefed up on the same grounds. A simple revert to original places would be much more fair - Schumacher gave us a good laugh but didn't gain from it.

well thats how we work every other meeting. since we dont have radio contact with RC (unless at Silverstone at certain meetings)

the marshals have free range over the yellow too.
the light system is different as it is partly automatic. when the yellow button is pressed, not only does it set that point flashing, it automatically switches on the steady yellow at the forward post, and the green light and the back post.

I meant F1 - surely anything with a safety car requires communication?

I see what you mean about the greens coming on though - if it isn't yellow (or red, obviously) then it must be green. Still seems daft though, would be a shame if it stood. Even more daft is they can appeal the decision, but not the penalty - so the most reasonable outcome (restoration of the places) is not possible.
