Hi chaps,

I'm moving up to Perth area in August, and am switching my contract to PAYG... what networks get some mobile internet coverage in the area? And which are best?

Where I am Orange / T-Mobile are best overall, I'd assume due to the different frequencies used that a different supplier would be best in the more rural locations...

Any help chaps?

Cheers

Ricks

I'm just north of Perth and Three works well for me - not just here, but all over the UK as I travel with work. TBH, you'd be better waiting until you know exactly where you are going to be living and take it from there.

Cheers Geoff, I would wait - but.... my contract is bonkers expensive and I'm switching to PAYG to reduce costs - so 2 months extra cash in my pocket really helps.

I've got my PAC, so was going to switch to PAYG, and can change again when I get up... but ideally wanted to not have the hassle.

I'd discounted Three.... but I'll have a look at their prices.

Giff-Gaff looked the best for price, and value - they piggy back off O2, so would be interesting to know how they fair in coverage.

in Aberfeldy looks very blank for Three. To be honest I think many 'rural' areas struggle with 3G coverage - here, in Elgin, that's certainly the case outside of the main trunk routes.

I've definitely had Three 3G coverage at the Watermill in Aberfeldy.

I've lived 4 miles from Aberfeldy for the last 6 years. AFAIK there is no 3G coverage anywhere in the Aberfeldy area from any of the operators, but you will be fine in Perth. I'm on Vodafone and get a good 2G signal everywhere. Quite a few friends have O2 and get reasonable coverage

If you want coverage in the highlands generally, Vodafone is significantly better than the other operators but don't expect 3G unless you are near one of the major towns

Edit

I've definitely had Three 3G coverage at the Watermill in Aberfeldy

Just checked and none of the operators show 3G in Aberfeldy

Which doesn't mean you don't get it. I've actually spent many an hour surfing (ok, paddling through treacle) this very STW sat under the canopy of the Aberfeldy playground as my kids have ridden their bikes on skate park and tried to do themself serious injury on the super slippery slide.

Edit - and no, it wasn't an Edge / 2G single

Whoop - cheers JJ. Still Cairngorms way, just not inside the park - not fully decided where we're going to be living yet - popping up there this month to sort a place out.

Would be great to have someone to show me some local trails too 🙂 You'd be more than welcome to come and stay
