Why the * do people take leave of their senses when using them? You still give way to your right just like a roundabout with a *ing island planted with pretty flowers in the middle. It isn't a ****ing free-for-all where either everyone tries to go at the same time or have a Mexican stand-off where no-one dare go.
And as for dumbbell mini-roundabouts!!!!!
Or is it just me that experiences this phenomena?
With mini roundabouts you dont always get the gap you do on larger roundabouts so if you all arrive at the same time and are all giving way to the right then you do usually end up in a standoff. On normal roundabouts you arent usually able to see the intentions of the other driver as clearly.
But I agree that they do end up a nightmare especially when they link them like in Hemel Hempstead!
It just appears to me that people forget completely what they are mean to do. I was turning right at one this morning (and indicating as I ALWAYS do). A van just came flying out of the junction top my left like the roundabout wasn't even there - I ended up at a halt in the middle of the road.

because there's millions of people who don't understand the concept of give way to the right. -- the same people who don't understand the concept of indicating.
Mexican stand-off... I just drive out if no one else can be bothered to because they're too scared.

It does all get a bit silly on mini-roundabouts round our way.
One of them is slightly offset so most people just go straight over it - I even had someone try to overtake me, as I was going 'round' the reoundabout & he decided he'd go on the wrong side of it and round me. Unfotunately his MG ZR couldn't quite match up to his racing intentions & he was left on the wrong side of the road looking like a tit.
I agree though that in general the stand-offs are caused because everyone turns up at the same time, so who has right of way.In that situation, as long as the other people are still looking indecisive, I just go to try & get things moving again.
They're used specifically for the process of slowing and evening out the traffic flow, the fact that no-one is entirely sure of who should go next (due to everyones varying definition of a safe distance) means people mostly approach them slowly and carefully. Give way to the right, but the key point is that everything is to the right on a circle. On a larger roundabout you can fairly safely assume that if the car to the right isnt between you and the previous arm, it's safe to proceed. With a tiny 'bout its only safe to proceed if people indicate, the people who dont indicate mean others cant make assumptions as to whether to go or not.
I found this out the other day when some dozy cow pulled out infront of me as I was turning right on one. Luckily i was in a vehicle and not on a bike. Cow got nasty and started to blame me for the accident had to involve the police as she wouldn't give her insurance details.
It's because the vast majority of people dont know how to drive worth a ****.
I blame the instructors.... 😆
Thats cos their instructors cancel their lessons at the drop of a hat 😆
CK - so do I.
I have one on my commute at the bottom of a 40mph hill, on an A road. It is a right hassle. If no-one comes from the right I can keep up the speed and do the last mile to get home a good minute or so quicker than if I have to stop.

Thanks for posting this. I have to come to a complete stop almost every day on this roundabout:
95% of the traffic is coming from the muppets direction and going straight across. Everybody just bimbles across mindlessly without even looking to see if anybody is coming from my direction
I love mini roundabouts as people just stay there while I shoot around!
Makes me laugh but if someone is not confident then take your time and be safe.
To complain about it?
you can go anti clockwise around hemel hempstead round a bout.
then there is swindons magic roundabout go straight across
wouldnt do either on a bicycle.
any other weired ones ?
Then there are double mini's, double the confusion.
Then there are double mini's, double the confusion.
Yeah, those'll be the dumbbell ones I referred to in the OP 😉
retro83 - cut the roundabout a bit more. the traffic coming from the left will be looking at your position and assuming that you are going left or straight across and will clear the roundabout quickly. by cutting the corner you are reinforcing what your signal is telling them. speed on approach to the roundabout is also an important factor in letting people know where you intend to go. your actual indicator is way down the list of what tells people where you are going.
double roundabouts are treated at two single roundabouts, but you dont go onto the first until you can clear the second.
come to Swindon, there's a magical treat there waiting for you.
