Can anyone recommend a map I could use to map out where I've ridden, I'd like to start seeing if I can link the places I know together, and then look at further afield too. I ride in the Peaks around New Mills & Marple mostly but have been venturing round Hayfield, Kinder etc more recently.
Either the OS White Peak (OL24) and Dark Peak (OL1) Explorer maps (1:25K scale) or the Harvey's set of three for the Peak, also at 1:25K scale
If you use Strava to log your rides then Veloviewer is an online resource (£10 PA) that links to Strava and can show you this information.
View ranger is good too.
Map my ride is reasonably good, it's an android app, but you can log in on a PC web browser and plot routes and stuff.
Truth be told there is no perfect one app solution, I use a variety of the above, Google maps, and https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=10/53.4104/-1.2895
And sometimes OS maps.
Yeh view ranger is also worth a look, just experiment and see what suits you, there's no real 'one stop' solution, so you'll probably end up using a couple.
bikehike
Brilliant, thanks as always, found this on ebay (even the picture on the front is a place I know!) I'd like to have it to hand to mark myself and this comes with a free download too.
Also looking closer the edge of the map is right where I live!
OS Maps has 3 for £20 at the moment. They also include a digital copy.
I don't really get OS maps pricing structure, I like them, don't get me wrong, but it's so convoluted between digital, having updates and buying paper maps.
They include digital in the price when you buy a map.

As above, for doing what you want to do. there's nothing better IMO than spreading paper 1:25k maps out and taking in the whole view. I've used a highlighter pen on BWs, permitted tracks, BOATs, local knowledge etc and then maybe joined them into routes with the odd FPs, roads, local knowledge etc. Sometimes used Wheresthepath satellite view to try and get a view on what tracks might look best to descend and what maybe looks best to climb. Often used Bikehike to quickly create a possible route to see how long it is. Then I might save and download a gpx route from bikehike to Back Country Navigator on my phone or use the course creator in BCN.
