This is a leg crossing topic , but what are the pros and cons of having our dog neutered .
Unless you plan to use it to breed, do it. More sociable creatures once 'done', lot less hassle round other dogs (as they don't need to be dominant or won't come into heat). No it's not natural but neither is having to keep you dog on a lead all the time
Cheers Zippy
Will it stop him trying to mount everything that moves .or is that a myth
Ours isn't the slightest bit interested in other dogs, totally ignores them for the most part. Unless it's a b&w cocherspaniel he hates them for some weird reason. No idea if it stops the old leg humping in 100% of cases, but none of our friends neutered dogs do it at all.
BTW did you get the picture about the magicshine connectors, they were quite big, but I didn't get a 'bounced' message
It's just not right, hell it's his balls for christsakes!
Nope no pics in my inbox or spam .
but then my virgin media mail has been very flakey for a while they have been messin with the system for a few weeks and while they assured us no mails would be lost they lied
No worries, saw you were on holiday & left it, will try again later.
MrNutt, as I said above

Nearly all the dogs on the lead @ the local common, are un-neutered, how can that be a better quality of life for them?
Much better. Improves the dog's nature, reduces territorial & shagging-related stuff. Get them off and don't look back.
If you have a dog and the only time it's out with you it needs to be kept on a lead to be under control then perhaps you should get a cat instead? Not that I'm condoning the domesticated cat you understand.
All four of ours have been done, a staffie, lab, and two poodles, we also have three cats and they all get along fine, no fighting or leg humping at home or with other dogs while out for walkys, makes them calmer and less inclined with the dominance thing
The poodles keep trying to shag the Siamese' but they respect his right to say no
Cats and dogs living together in harmony, how can you not see this as wrong?

That's not strictly true, the cats are in charge
Absolutly
no balls = no humping in my experience of dogs
no balls = no humping in my experience of dogs
its nice that your picky...
no balls = no humping in my experience of dogs
Unless your a poodle and a Siamese ladyboy saunters by
as a vet said to me, whilst advocating castration: imagine you have a massive sex drive but aren't allowed to sow your oats or spank off. how bad would that feel?
a sound argument, delicately put.
Sounds like Paddys nuts are doomed then , wonder if he will be curious when he wakes up and goes to lick them and find nowt there
It's just a little snip, they don't chop the lot off
MrNutt - MemberCats and dogs living together in harmony, how can you not see this as wrong?
No more wrong than a wolf and a human living together in harmony.........which essentially is what the OP is suggesting.
Personally, I don't feel comfortable with the thought of someone having a more impressive pair of gonads than me ........ so just for that reason alone, I would insist that the dog had his nuts whipped off.
And anyway, serves the ****ers right...........why else do dogs noisily lick and slurp their bollox, if it isn't to rub in just how extraordinarily well-endowed they are ?
Khani
sounds like they do remove the round dangly bits and he is booked in on friday next week .
got a cracking week ahead wednesday Jemma my daughter and Paddys owner has her driving test
thursday she goes in to have her tonsils out
friday paddys nuts removed
saturday could be a fun day
It doesn't guarantee certain desirable behaviours. My vet wouldn't and couldn't guarantee the results. Being castrated can alter a dogs behaviour and render it more aggresive....
A dog's behaviour is more likely a result of how it is brought up, treated and handled.
I wouldn't do it unless there was a medical need.
BTW my lurchers had his done, resulting from a medical problem. My Jack Russell is complete and is in no way aggresive or overtly fruity.
Walk your dog, wear it out, treat it properly and teach him if behaviour is unacceptable. But don't have surgery just because it's easy for you!
Upon further inspection 😯 it looks like they pull the Balls out, but the bag and the Tinkle are all in situ, and look normal,
Dont think that my best mate would appreciate me getting him neutered. I think he'd chin me if I even tried.
It is my view that there is something fundamentally wrong with people whose best friend is an animal.
Never heard the expression "man's best friend"?? 🙄
trout - just for paddy
Walk your dog, wear it out,
What like this :
Mmm.......not sure you'll allowed in that many places dressed like that.
.
It is my view that there is something fundamentally wrong with people whose best friend is an animal.
Let me explain this one to you Surrounded By Zulus........
The term "man" is used here to denote the whole species. And it refers to the fact that Homo sapiens, if you prefer to use that term, have a long association with dogs, or Canis lupus familiaris.
In fact it goes back for many tens of thousands of years - far longer than any other association with any other species.
For this reason, dogs are often described as "man's best friend".
It doesn't however mean that the owner of a dog might want it to act as best man at his wedding.
HTH
didnt the ancient egyptians worship cats?
(btw i hate cats)
and are pet whippet has had it b**ls of and it doesnt even cock its leg anymore!!!
didnt the ancient egyptians worship cats?
Yes they did. The relationship between man and dog goes much further back than that.
And I personally, don't worship my friends.
The ancient Egyptians also worshipped the sun btw. But I'm not sure whether it would be correct to describe the sun as one of their best friends.
Of course the Egyptians no longer worship cats.........so if it was a friendship, it was clearly a piss-poor friendship which didn't stand the test of time.
so how far do dog's go back then? not tame wolves.
Dogs are tame wolves. What did you think they were ?
ernie_lynch, how many tens of thousands of years is this?
I hate the way that some people think more of their dogs than they do of humans. To the point where some of them believe that their dog's life is more important than a human's life.
ernie_lynch, how many tens of thousands of years is this?
Does it matter ?
.

And I hate the way some people exaggerate stuff.
If it's your dog you will take care of it and look after it. In the same way you might your bike, CD collection/music centre, house/home etc. (although obviously you have to consider pain, suffering, happiness etc.)
Can you be accused of 'believing that your bike is more important than a human's life' because you spend more on it than you do on those who are dying of starvation ?
There is nothing on this thread which suggests anyone 'believes that their dog's life is more important than a human's life'
