I'm working from home (as ever) and self-employed AND up to date with all my work. So when I get a Disney+ alert that Mandalorian is now streaming what else could I do but reheat some Hogs in Blankets, fry some corned beef hash and heat some peas.
Right, time to switch off the brain and have some fun.

The Mandalorian managed to go from very promising to pretty dull in its first short run so I'll probably be giving it a swerve this time around. Mind you, I'm totally on board with

Hogs in Blankets, fry some corned beef hash and heat some peas

and doubly so if those peas are mushy.

Ready for tonight also.  Do we know if its one episode per week as yet or can we watch multiple episodes tonight?

Enjoyed Mando 1 with my boys, but I think it suits binge watching personally, so I'll wait until they are all available.
It was the first Star Wars product since Return of the Jedi that I enjoyed without cringing.

We got bored with Season 1 fairly early, then stopped watching after the stupid awful prison ship episode. Went back after a few months to watch the last few for some reason and they were actually pretty good.

Well I my son was looking forward to watching S2 Ep1 this weekend. Unfortunately a minor behavioural indiscretion from my son last night means Mrs F has banned any TV for him this weekend. He may be allowed dessert though.

Do I watch it without him?

We only got halfway through the first series and just never got round to finishing it. I really enjoyed it, really reminded me of watching Westerns with my dad as a kid - improbable action, gaping plot holes and cheesy acting - but somehow just never finished it.

It’s more of the same which is good my books, it’s family viewing so not at all taxing.

Pegg/Frost Truth Seekers also released today on Prime …be giving that a go too

Seems not too bad loads of geeky references as per Pegg and Frost normally do.

Stupid prisson ship episode, how can you say that, it had X wings blowing stuff up.
Just closing ones eyes and simply listening is condensed sound of star wars, it's amazing 🙂

I really like the soundtrack. Being reductive, it’s basically just a western movie soundtrack with some arpeggiated synths to make it sound more space-y but then that’s pretty much the tone of the series anyway.

It’s great imo. Basically a western that’s taken some influence from Shogun Assassin with a good soundtrack. Best Star Wars live action since the originals. It’s worth it just to see how excited my son is to watch it with me.

Can’t wait. The only real Star Wars I’ve enjoyed since Return of the Jedi too.

Not trying to be too clever / long. Just super simple plot lines in short episodes. If people can’t suspend reality for an episode or think the acting is poor... How did you manage the last 6 + Solo / Rogue 😂

As a bit of a geek when it comes to cameras and VFX, the way that some of the shots were done in Mandalorian were particularly fascinating. It made everyone try and recreate it at home, which is pretty rad.

Enjoyed that. But as it's one a week we're going to need some other star wars fix. Got a 6 and 8 year old interested.
What's the better bet - clone wars or rebels?

Clone Wars then Rebels

Clone Wars kind of passed me by and I vaguely gather it may taken a bit of a while to get into its stride. Rebels clicked for me immediately, I liked the smaller scale that it started with, just a small group of characters pretty much on their own, fighting for a small part of the galaxy. The story grew as it progressed and while it did so organically and continued to be enjoyable I most liked the small scale of the first season or so.

The Mandalorian I think also does well because it's telling a fairly small story. It may end up having big ramifications but it's primarily about one man trying to do what he feels is right, and the responsibilities he's picked up along the way. The Star Wars movies have often tripped up over the weight of continuity and the need to rest plots of galactic importance on the shoulders of a few characters.

Stupidly, because I haven't really watched that many Westerns I associate the incidental music in The Mandalorian mostly with the background music of the Borderlands video games.

Some of the detail in Rebels, especially in later obnes will be lost on you if you havent seen clone wars. Maybe even watching the last season of clone wars that was released in april ish would do..Rebels is better but the context will help.

Clone Wars is immense when you get absorbed into it.  It rehabilitates Anakin as a character and makes his journey to the dark side more nuanced, the story arcs are brilliant.

I struggled with Rebels to start with as the Ezra character is another annoying star wars brat, luckily my own annoying brat enjoyed it so we stuck with it and it becomes another great series.

I think we watched Rebels first, or at least series 1 and 2 and then binged on the clone wars.  Definitely recommend Clone Wars first, it's the best Star Wars to date.

I thought Season Ep1 was bloody fab personally. The great big Easter Egg of The Marshalls speeder - from The Phantom Menace Pod Race? Timothy Olyphant as The Marshall. The Tuskan Raider getting munched instead of the Bantha. And the final theme tune is just awesome, my favourite since The Wire.

Thanks all, good to know a little about what comes up and that they're worth it. I think we'll go clone wars then rebels.
But first I guess, if it involves anakin, that clone wars would be better avoided until after New hope and empire at least.
So I'm thinking well be watching new hope later today, quite excited.
🙂

@loum

The order I'd watch them in is;

Phantom Menace

Attack of the Clones

Clone Wars

Revenge of the Sith

Solo

Rogue One

A New Hope

Empire

Jedi

Rebels

Having said that I won't be watching Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith again.  I actually did finally get round to watching Revenge of the Sith with my son after the Clone Wars as I gave up on the prequels after AotC.

I haven't got round to watching Rise of the Skywalker yet, I'm in no hurry, the recent films didn't inspire either...

The Mandalorian however has been great.

Loved the way season 1 finished, hoped Season 2 would pick back up with it but seems to have gone back to the Stargate SG1 style of new planet, quick skirmish and off we go.

Saying that, will have the second episode on this evening!

Thanks @twistedpencil

We went for the originals first, didn't want anything to spoil the surprise. Had new hope last weekend and empire last night.
Had the six year old asking me, "Dad, is he really his dad?" Last night and this morning so it's all good. We'll watch Jedi next to finish that trilogy, then jump back in time.
And it's Mando day again, which is great.

It definitely didn't disappoint.
To avoid being stuck to the election last night I re-watched Force Awakens for some reason.
Damn I love that film. Just a total remake of my favourite Star Wars (although it got knocked off the top step by Rogue One.).
I hope you enjoy it as much as i did.
Right back to doing some work/book keeping.

my teenage daughter and I have been mini-binging Clone Wars every Thursday since the start of the first lockdown. It's fab. Some of the stories are a bit heavy on the politics but season 4 is magnificent.

Ahsoka Tano is by far the best character. Looking forward to her appearing in the Mandalorian.

(I bought a projector and a massive screen in time for the start of this season)

Also, anyone who thinks the Mandalorian is dull must be an amoeba 😉

Have you seen Rebels, I almost cried when she showed up in that!!

Todays episode had those spider things like were on the planet in Rebels where the had the secret base.

I was just thinking that I really like the way they've done lots of stuff with models and prosthetics rather than CGI. THen I watched this week's episode. I did not enjoy the CGI in this episode.

Watched the first 4 episodes of S1 and never truly took to them. Watched them a second time with my son and again, found it significantly underwhelming. Can't put my finger on why - it's jsut kind of dull. However, will wrap the series up at some time but not in any rush.

Re The Rise of SkyWalker, I watched the first 45 mins 6 months ago and didn't connect with it. Watched it again a fortnight later and found it pulling me in, so much so that I loved it. Sure, the second half may seem contrived to some but I didn't give a monkey - it was just bloody good fun.

Agreed, no filler there. Good healthy family fun, good versus evil, short term gratification with long story arc payoff, guest stars, explosions, cool spaceships.

And eastereggs.

Brilliant episode. Katee Sakhoff and Titus Welliver in one episode; awesome.

Shaping into another fab season. I’m actually re-watching Rebels right now and Ahsoka, Lando, Tarkin and Vader have showed up. Still good. If you’ve not seen it, I’d say it’s even better than Clone Wars.

I was a bit so-so about the first season but I think the second is quite a bit better, it feels grittier to me. Loving the casting as well, hopefully we'll have Al Swearengen next week.

WWE star Sasha Banks (real name Mercedes Varnado)

Erm, her real name is waaaaay cooler than her stage name.

Great episode wasn't it? I wonder if those who feel underwhelmed may be younger, and thus not revelling in all the cinematic and TV references?

It's a masterful genre pastiche, showing up JJ's Star Wars films for the lightweight shit that they were.

Doh, thought he looked familiar - didn't recognise him with hair though!
