MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
OK another boring "recommend me blah" thread
I want genuinely waterproof trousers for mtb and commuting to be used in combination with overshoes with the goal of staying completely dry in normal rain. Requirements-
* Waterproof
* Breathable
* Not too baggy. In particular decent fit around ankles rather than ability to remove them without taking off shoes.
* Robust
* Zipped air vents are nice (but not necessary)
These-> https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Madison-DTE-Waterproof-Trousers_117721.htm Madison ones have good reviews. However a couple of review suggest sizing is big. I am 32-33" waist and 33.5" inseam (usually wear Endura medium). The Madison chart puts me on Large. Any views on sizing or alternatives I should consider?
Currently I have some cheap Altura ones that are OK but are a bit baggy and sweaty. Also have paclite walking ones that are great but I'm scared of ripping or wearing out the backside.
Thanks in advance.
I'd imagine those will be big on you tbh, I'm 34" waist and L on me is okay, but I'd prefer it a wee tiny bit tighter.
Just bought some of these. 30-32 waist and 32 inside leg. I bought Medium and even with the side tabs puled tight the waist feels a tiny bit loose, but not falling down loose. Everything else id spot on, so I'd say Large might be a tad to big
I'm a nominal 34" waist, but actually 36". I bought the Large; fit is OK, a bit baggy. Really don't like the velcro waist band adjusters - catch on T-shirts etc and pull everything. I might cut them off and use some braces as I don't trust them to stay up when wet without a belt of something decent.
Thanks all. Medium it is then!
Are you wearing bibshorts underneath?
Footflaps- anything else you don't like about them?
I'd go medium. I have some Madison zip-off waterproof trousers in a medium and they are just right. I usually buy 32" (though I think I'm a little larger these days), medium Endura in fact medium pretty much everything. I wear bibshorts or non bib shorts under mine.
In particular decent fit around ankles
Beware of an ankle so tailored that it channels water into rather than over your shoes unless you have shoes with a neoprene cuff or whatever to them
Are you wearing bibshorts underneath?
No just normal padded shorts
Footflaps- anything else you don’t like about them?
No, just the waistband design seems optimised to attack whatever else you're wearing with Velcro. Other than that, they are pretty decent. Well made.
I lied, just remembered the pockets. The pocket openings are quite small and the zips are super chunky waterproof zips which catch your hands (or at least mine) when you try and use them. Not that you normally use pockets that much cycling; but they are pretty crap.
I was looking at getting a pair of these but the shortest inside leg is 32". Being a short arse im only 30" inside leg with a 29/30" waste. Going by the above comments would a small be ok?
Cheers.
The competition is Gore C3 50% off- https://www.evanscycles.com/gore-c3-gore-tex-active-pants-EV325609 . They look awful aesthetically but I can live with that if they are much better at keeping me dry 🙂
I have those. Work very well.. I had to go a waist size up for leg length, so I also need some braces to keep them up.
Comfy and work very well.

I find that with wet weather, fabric gives more and slides down. Keep meaning to buy some..
Wellies and basic PVC £5.99 workwear trousers and high viz are my winter 6 mile not too energetic commute choice. I don't wear any lycra.
