Is anyone throwing themselves headlong into the fray then? Will it be a fight outside the kebab house at 3am, after an ill-advised round of tequilas?

We always meet up for post-work beers on a Friday, but I’m thinking better of it. We did the same last year and opened the door of our usually sedate local to what appeared to be a zombie apocalypse, so sacked it off and went straight home instead.

Yep, bring it on

Out in Manchester and then at a Christmas house party, if that counts.

I'd rather poo in my hands and clap.

The thought of an agreed trip up the M6 around Brum to Stile Cop tomorrow morning is already giving me The Judders.

Local pub early doors for me. Nothing late, nothing silly, and sadly no kebabs.

I'm going to get myself to the post pickup place and collect a parcel, then hit the supermarket, but other than that, I am not planning on leaving the house this weekend

I'm going to my works party: they've rented out a club in central Madrid and I'm assuming it'll be a free bar from 8 til midnight or so. I quite like my colleagues so it should be alright.

Well I've just nipped to the tip, petrol station and Aldi.

About a 10mile round trip.

Saw 1 accident got passed a a police car with lights and sirens going, Aldi was like a war zone and two cars were randomly stopping on the carriage as if they were lost.

Dread to think what the pubs will be like later.

I was out last night in Manchester. Food at Cibo was 'acceptable' although they missed my sides ! Busy in the bars from 2pm through until 10pm when I got home. Didn't drink that much as my sinus' are playing up. Staying home today (WFH) as I'm dad taxi picking daughter up from work at 10pm.

Yeah out tonight, about 30 of us descending on a random pub with a band on in the next town over, our local usual spot we frequent every year which is one of those fancy brewery/drinking establishments is a ticket only affair tonight and we weren't quick enough to buy in. The next town over has a bit of a bad reputation, we will probably only be out till about 11 but I'm sure we will see some entertainment by then, aside from the band

In the office today, central Leeds, had a pint at lunch, beer fridge opening shortly, which I will partake from, but not too much as I’m on crutches.

Picked up my new guitar from Forsyth's in Manchester today. Will be trying to get it home in one piece via Victoria station.

Very often walk past the location pictured above on my way into the office. Never fails to raise a smile! Was it really so long ago?

Right, I’m off to risk my local to meet a couple of my other work-from-home mates. If it’s full of coked-up 20 year olds I won’t be hanging around for long

Not for me as I just want to stay in to eat my smoked cured gammon (bought two big chunks of gammon) and drinking port, and watching some movies stress free 😆

Oh ya 15p per pack each for Brussel sprouts, carrots, parsnips and potatoes that need eating ...

Wonder if the group of guys that were sat near us in Cibo Manchester last night will still be coked up tonight. A couple of social Workers I was with, very quickly spotted what the guys were upto. Straight over my head !

Well that was surprisingly civilised. The pub was a bit busier than usual but not mental. There was a big gang of coked up 20 year olds leaving as I got there. Everyone seemed very glad to see the back of ‘em.

I’m sure it’ll all be downhill from here. The sofa and a chippy tea seemed like a much better option than watching the inevitable carnage unfold

Working in and running bars for 20+ years' worth of Mad Friday's and I'd rather not thanks very much. One of the worst days of year to be bar related staff. That and Ladies Day at Newcastle races. They're animals.

Just back from downtown Aviemore. Probably the quietest Friday night I've experienced here since Covid. I'm sure things will pick up tomorrow as Saturday is changeover day.

Well that was interesting. Pubs remarkably quiet. Went to 5 different ones around the west end and city centre as well as a restaurant. As I've been saying for ages its far too expensive for folk to go out the same way we did when we were younger. Demographic was significantly older tonight across a range of pubs

On the 2nd last train home right now and it's very quiet and civilised

Socialising has changed massively, and it's not necessarily a bad thing

we took the plunge and for a family treat had booked a table at a small Malaysian restaurant local to us, very nice, just mains and pudds for the four of us, no booze, came to £135 plus tip 😬

and yet the place was full of folk ... families, couples, groups, I guess it's Christmas 🙄

^^ soft drinks cost almost as much as alcoholic ones in restaurants now, so that’s not too bad at under £40 a head for 2 courses and some juice.

I was in my regular drinking establishment in Melksham tonight, I’ve seen it busier, and I’ll be there again tomorrow, but there’s still several more days to go next week before Christmas, so I expect things to warm up a bit by Christmas Eve.

Out in central Newcastle last night. We’re going to watch The Toon tomorrow and met up with some friends from Florida who have came to UK for a Christmas break - they want a cold Christmas! Away from the heat - and over to watch some “soccer”. They are going to see the game tomorrow too. Crazy NUFC fans.

The Toon was super busy but everyone seemed in good spirits - although we were only out to 10pm.

i spent plenty of the evening working as a translator ….. “what did she/he say”.

Busier than normal in the village. Still quieter than normal night a few years ago. Still the same people drinking now as the was then, all 50 plus. None of the younger folk are pub regulars, the 20’s are skint and the 30-40 yr olds are all working to pay a huge mortgage and a posh car.

“Out” in Dundee last night and was fairly quiet, but it’s gonna be when your out early doors with Mrs a11y and 2 x mini a11ys. They were the only kids in the food place. All very civilised. Wandered briefly though the city centre and Christmas market (dead) then back to hotel bar. Barely registered that it was so-called mad Friday but perhaps it was carnage later on.

  • Out with friends for a Xmas meal to a pub in the sticks that's usually rammed . It was dead 🤔we thought people just don't have the money then driving back we noticed a load of cars outside the village hall so maybe that's where the action was !

I guess so but for a family meal it just feels a fair dosh of cash to lay out, but since it's Christmas we did 🙂

I ended up in Humble Pie pub in Rammy and it was a decent Friday night out. Had a seat, easy to get served at the bar and background music but not too loud.

I'll aim to go again prior to next year's mad Friday.

Considerably less than our total meal cost with drinks.

Anyway, the ‘drinkers’ pubs were packed by alter afternoon early evening here, some had been busy since 12pm and one steady from 9am. I kept away from those ones last night as wasn’t that kind of day out for us.

No, £40 per head for a good meal with drinks is not far off going rate. Unless you go for a cheap eatery which is not something I readily do for family meals.

"Socialising has changed massively, and it's not necessarily a bad thing"

I agree Fort William at least has much less of a pub going drinking culture amongst the under 40s. They tend to drink/socialise at someone's home. That's probably a bit of a mixed blessing

Or maybe I'm just too old

I just picked up Binnerette number one up from uni in York today. She had the misfortune to be working behind the bar at a club last night. Her verdict? “I can’t stand the amateur drinkers you get out at Christmas. They’re all absolute arseholes!”

There were numerous fights, including a bloke punching a woman in the face, the police were called 3 times, a really pissed bloke projectile vomited over the bar and at the end of the night she had to try and wake up a woman who was asleep sat on the bog with her trollies around her ankles

An average night out in an STW retirement village!
