We will be in touch
my friends mac has power but won't start up..
it's about 10 years old.. any quick fixes we could attempt..?
What type of Mac?
Does it chime at all when you turn it on?
it's a macbook.. it chimes, starts to boot and then just gives up and turns off
Blimey that's so old I don't know what to suggest ! There are various start-up modes holding down the command or option key (one that looks like a cloverleaf) but they may not existed on a machine that old. My oldest MacBook (white laptop) was 2006 and that has the safe start modes (boot holding shift key) and CMD-R etc

I would suggest you google the model name / year and see what you can find on the Apple Support communities.
PS I owe you an email responce (it will be positive) apologies as I've been busy with house move
What jambalaya said really.
Try booting into safe mode, or if you still have the disks it came with, try booting off of those.
Plugged in to mains power or starting up via battery?
Have a look for target disk mode, or using a fire wire cable, it can be booted off another emac.. there was a recent mac thread on this exact thing recently....
