Hi I need somewhere nice either in or around Chichester to take my Auntie to lunch. I will be collecting her from the train station. So a small drive is fine but as neither of us are from the area can the single track collective recommend somewhere to go.

White Horse in Chilgrove just North of Chi. Not cheap but very nice.

Fox Goes Free is a bit further away past Goodwood (very near the Weald & Downland museum) and is also very nice. Gets very busy though.

The Royal Oak in Hooksway is just past the White Horse, lovely old building, eccentric landlord and they do ok food with the exception of amazing burgers.

There are many pubs just north of Chi serving very, very good food but very few in or South worth a visit; The one at Dell Quay being an exception. The best I have found is the Richmond Arms in Lavant. The food is beautiful!

Didn't some STW posters take over the Lamb, on the road to West Wittering?

The menu looks ok, and it's a pretty looking pub. I keep meaning to pop in as I've been at the marina most weekends this summer.

The Crown and Anchor at Dell Quay (as previously mentioned) was good when i went there the other week, - it's a Young's Pub so pretty much similar menu to many others, and we did have the "burger and chips option" from outside, but it was good quality, probably as good as burger and chips can get. Actually, the chips were amazing, the best I have had in years, that whole crunchy golden on the outside, that didn't go soft, and remained fluffy soft white middle whilst being piping hot. party of us all enjoyed it and the view over the river is really lovely too.

We always used to go in St Martins Tea Shop. All organic produce (back before this was trendy 😉 )

Food is absolutely lovely..

Can add to the list of pubs south that might be worth a visit. The Anchor Bleu in Bosham and the Old house at home in Chidham. Some good walking around there as well.

The pie shop in town is pretty good as well!

If wanting to stay in 'Chi' (that makes my teeth itch just typing that!) itself and more of a cafe experience - the Fat Fig is my Chichester brunch venue of choice. Building nothing to write home about but it's nice inside that the family that run it are very nice.

But Crown and Anchor at Dell Quay still my fav - it's a proper south coast waterside creek view and the service is great. Book early to get the table in the bay window and can always sit outside if it's nice.

Smith and Wesson right next to the station. My son loves it in there.

@ Convert - If you sit outside at The Crown & Anchor you have to order from a different menu. Not as good as the 'inside menu' IMO.

Only if the outside kiosk is open. Which it only is in high season at the weekend.

Looks like a few chichester locals here! Any hints about good rides? Im fairly new to the area. Ride at whiteways and have ventured up the trundle and routes via the S Downs way already. Or does anyone ride from town?

+1, and don't forget you can save yourself loading the car by using the Centurion Way to get from town into the Downs without going on roads.

I think Geared Bikes used to do group rides from Chi, not sure if that's still the case:

Once again, thank you to all who posted. We went to the Crown and Anchor at Dell Quay. The food was excellent with a very pleasant view.
