Have a look at Skopelos - fly to Skiathos and high speed ferry from there.

You could spend some time on both island?

Skopelos is small, quiet and very relaxing. Beaches are small and secluded, Skopelos Town is lively in a non-nightclub way and there are few other island to explore while you're there.

Paxos is nice. Means a Hydrofoil trip over from Corfu but well worth it. Did Skopelos a couple of years ago, also very nice, stayed in the hills above Skopelos town first week then onto Glossa for the second. Used Simply Travel and James Villas in the past, both very good.

Heard good things about Lipsi, but this is very remote, but great if you want to get away from cars for a week or two.

Tyger,

Without sounding a bit wet, its my favorite place anywhere.
Can't explain why I like it, it just has an atmosphere that really connects with me.

+1 Samos. Honeymooned in Kokkarri. It's a nice town and a great island to explore. Great spot if you windsurf, I am blessed my wife is so understanding! Pebble beach though if that's an issue.

Folegandros which is a short ferry journey from Santorini is my favourite quiet island though.

Kefalonia was really nice with some good deserted beaches.

Zante was also nice.

I spent a weekend on a Greek island, it was terrible. There was a drain in the floor of my hotel room with the sound of running water all the time and when I went swimming I blundered into a "Mersey trout" floating just offshore. Never again.

Lefkada has Vassiliki on it, good trails and windsurfing - the windsurfing schools run daily group rides into the hills and you can rent kit. Then its a short hop to Kefalonia (captain watsits mandolin) where the beaches around Fiskardo are beautiful. No massive tourist dross...

Samos - Beautiful place, try the coast around Ormos Marathakambos many isolated and completely deserted coves.

Oh and Chios, 20Km from Turkey, only Greeks and Swedes go there for some reason. Very quiet and very beautiful - wild camped on a beach for 6 days with the whole bay to ourselves. Very big mountain in the middle for two wheel fun - you just need to avoid the hunters shooting you.

Yeah Fiskado is a beautiful place - more like a Cornish fishing village than a Greek village but beautiful in every way.

Kefalonia is an odd place for swimming though - it is a porous island so water runs through it meaning some beaches have really cold water running through the bay - so one minute you are in lovely warm water then suddenly it is almost freezing.

Stay on any island that doesn´t have an airport, that way you´ll avoid the crowds. Also if you can take a bike, there´s some great riding to be had on some of the smaller islands.
I used to fly to Athens, ride to the port and take pot luck on the first ferry out.

Fly into Santorini and then ferry to Paros or Naxos. Both beautiful islands with very few Brits, few wealthy italians and a few greeks on their jollies. Beautiful...

Oh, and Paros:

and Naxos...

[img] [/img]

Or if you wanted to stay on Santorini (few more Brits, only one flight from the UK a week IIRC etc). That island behind me is the middle of a live volcano or which Santorini is the old 'hill' it was part of. And that Mythos was one of the best I've ever had. From what I can remember it was about 7 in the evening and still about 35degrees...

Another vote for Paxos. Have visited the majority of the islands and Paxos is by far the least touristy. It's tiny, and the beaches aren't as long and sandy as they are elsewhere in Greece, but the general atmosphere and pace of the island is amazing.

+1 For Naxos - I worked on the island for the summer months 6 years running - However last visit was 1995 so I can imagine its changed a bit, hopefully not too much though

Its always difficult recommending somewhere in case you end up hating it.
If you decide to go to Samos drop me a line and I'll fill you in about what we did, and what we liked!
Franky I don't think you can go wrong in Greece, I've loved every place we've been Samos, and on the mainland Parga, are to stand out places!

Santorini is a bit short on beaches (being a volcano and that), but is one of the loveliest places I have ever been to.

+1 for Paros and +1 for Sifnos, Sifnos is the better but also on the way to Paros so if you don'y like it you can go to Paros or Santorini or maybe Milos, that's always worth a visit.

For peace and quiet fly to Rhodes and get a ferry to either symi or nissiros had a great time in both.like stepping back in time....the 2nd one is volcanic and has really cool natural saunas and the odd tremor but very unspoilt!

Kefalonia for wild, beautiful and quiet beaches. Very steep in parts and lovely. Awau from the main resort it all feels 'older Greece'

Well out of the way and the scenery is spectacular. Not so much with the sandy beaches though.

We stayed in the Eagles nest in Lourdas kef (see trip advisor reviews)- the sea crashing in onto the beach and sea funnels etc- stunning.

Mind-numbingly boring though. Why not Barcelonas (nice) beach with an interesting city attached?

Santorini is stunning, but very busy during high season and not a beach destination - you could always do a dual resort, do a week there and then get the seacat over to Ios which has some awesome beaches and is pretty quiet despite it's reputation for being a bit of a party island. Thassos is great, Lefkas also has some amazing beaches, the beach of Porto Katsiki is regarded as one of the best in greece.

We like the quieter resorts , on Zante we liked Alikanas/Alikes or if you want a bit more lively but still not ott then there's Tsilivi.

In Rhodes we stopped in Pefkos lovely beaches and Lindos close by for busy tourist stuff.

We stopped in Kefalos in Kos and loved the place the beach there is massive and amazing bubbles rise from the seabed due to volcanic activity , 5 years ago it was no busier than 7 years previous so hopefully there still hasn't been much change there.
