Looking to walk Offa's Dyke (north to south) next month, but am trying to decide what to do for maps. It takes 7 1:25k maps to cover the route, which would be a pain to carry and would cost me the best part of £50
As a last resort I could print and laminate my own maps from http://wtp2.appspot.com/, or just use 1:50k maps (not sure about this)
Anyone got any ideas/experience?
50k will be fine.
Cant see why you would need the extra details of the 25k for a walk
Print out your own maps. Use online maps or memory map. Either print them on plastic paper or use a ziplock bag.
compass and gps may be handy as well....

You can get your own OS map setup centralise it to the walk may fit it all in or a few might cover it.
I used Harveys maps for SDW - not sure if they do a map for your route - wouldnt hurt to google harveys map
Check Amazon for "Offas Dyke"...you can buy a strip map of the entire route (e.g. Harveys) or the National Trail books (one for North one for South) or equivalent - these should have a strip map / route description (assume it will be similar to the Pennine Way version which was very good)...BUT also take additional mapping e.g. at 1:50K , as if you do stray off the strip map or need to orientate yourself with other features then you are going to struggle.
Had a look at the National Trail ones in shop today and the maps seem pretty up to date. Will certainly be taking proper maps as well though, like you say there isn't much leeway if you stray east or west
The harveys are really good on the ones I've used.
