Power to the workers is still there it appears, and a summer of discontent sails merrily on.

Discuss. Nicely.

Has the dispute been resolved to the satisfaction of the workers ? Why are they striking then ?

No power to the commuters, who are treated poorly by both the operators and the unions

In the case of FGW, just because they can, it seems. They've been given assurances about staffing, etc, but they're whittering on about 'safety' or some such bollocks, just because the trains have sliding doors, just like Underground trains, rather than old-style 'slam-doors', where they have some bod checking to make sure the doors are all closed.
There is now some sort of 'safety issue' with this, despite it having been operating for donks on the Underground; I fail to see what it could possibly be, rather it's an excuse to kick off a spurious dispute.

they always pull out the "safety" word.

wouldn't be at all surprised if the tube drivers pulled that word out, for being offered overtime to work nights to provide a better 24/7 service to the people that ultimately pay the bills.

The sooner that tube trains are automated, the better. Luckily I don't have to get the tube too often, but I'll feel sorry for commuters tomorrow.

You reckon everything has been resolved to the satisfaction of the workers but 80% voted in a strike ballot to strike "just because they can" ?

That seems strange, specially as the East Coast line has come to an agreement with the RMT to introduce exactly the same trains without any talk of strikes. In fact it's so strange that I don't believe it.
