I want to get back to learning the guitar, and want to use headphones whilst I'm practicing. I already have a large amp but it's big and ugly so I can't get away with leaving it in the lounge (/daughters play room)

I've seen the Line 6 Pocket Pod (and now a Pocket Pod express whatever that is) and it appears to fit the bill (small, headphone socket) but is there any real alternatives I should also be looking at.

I used to use a Beringer V-Amp which was good. You should be able to pick up a good used one from e-bay. I now use a Line 6 Tone Port GX together with the Line 6 Pod Farm software which is probably not for you if you wont' be sitting next to a PC. However if the POD Farm sounds are anything like the Pod's hardware sounds then I'd recommend the Line 6 stuff over the Beringer V-Amp.

I think the Korg Pandora would be good.
Not only do you get great guitar sounds but you get a host of other features..... esp' rhythmn and bass patterns to practice along to.
