Anyone do their regular shop in Lidl? We do the occasional one and I've come to the conclusion that their food produce is of far better quality than the likes of Morrisons and Sainsburys.
Had a roast chicken last night - I had no idea it was from Lidls, but nicked a few bites while carving it. Lovely it was. Mentioned to Mrs Dezb how nice it was. She tells me its from Lidls and it certainly was much better than the organic one we had last week from Morrisons.
Salad stuff is also markedly better!
Yay for pikey shopping I says!

we use them, partly because they are local to us.

We have no problems with the quality we get there, if anything we do find we come out with stuff we did not intend to buy 😉

Yes, the fresh food is usually good, but better than that they had Boxes of Bud at £8 🙂 at the weekend. I got 3 but they have all gone so will be down there 2nite 4 some more 😀 😀

Fruit and veg is apparently organic but cant be stated as such for some sort of strange reason.

I shop there all the time, got some great summer SPD riding shoes from them - about £18 and excellent quality. Try their oven ready Lasagne, (the one from chilled shelfs, not the freezers) - its really nice! Oh and the tinned Herrings in mango sauce, lovely on toast, and the ........

Our local Lidl is advertising road bikes with full Ultegra at £749 as well.

How much cheaper is it? Went to one in Thurso last year expecting to pay about a fiver for a trolley full but it didn't seem THAT much cheaper.

Agreed about the lasagne, though we had that and polished the lot off no trouble. Come to think of it, was only about £1.50...

you have to pay for quality you know 😉

Yep, we're Lidl Lasagne fans too!

Try comparing their radishes to another supermarkets. They actually have flavour!

Can't quite get my missus round to the Lidl idea. Weird thing is we shop in Aldi?? I think it's because our local Lidl looks like a jumble sale.

Our local Lidl is crap all it has is JCBs, dumper trucks, tonnes of hard core gravel and concrete pipes.

their pizzas are very good too.

also 400g of banana chips for £1.20 is very cheap.

Is that because they're still building it drac?

I have to confess I have never shopped at Lidl. We may be having to though if we're losing my income.

Nowt wrong with Aldi or Lidl, been shopping there for years.

particulary love the milk choc biscuits which are nicer (i think) than McVities version, same with the digestive biscuits (bonus is they are 49p and 29p respectivly for a 400g pack)
the ready meals actually have pleanty in them - the currys are very nice for microwave meals, and have plenty of chicken in them, compared to the 3 pieces of chicken in the last one i got from ASDA.

i dont find they are pikey places tho - thats ASDA and Tesco round here. the local Lidl (todmorden) is mainly hippies. and the motorbiking and cycling gear goes very rapidly.

My lad is buying six packs of Pepsi Max for 99p from Lidl, and selling the cans at after school in the park for 40p each, or three for a quid. He freezes a lunchbox of water overnight to keep them cool during the day.

Love it.

IMHO - Lidl food is excellent, but the hardwear is pretty crap. Aldi food isn't as good, but their non-food stuff is better, esp bike stuff.
BTW - Lidl Tiramusu is the dog's b...

I'd agree with that - although Aldi has a better choice of Haribo

No good for a single person local shop. our somerfield became a lidl. The demographic has totally changed and the staff are not as friendly.
Less choice, No scottish beer!! I'm sure its great for families and buying in bulk though.

Not sure on the legality of it, but its impressive business sense! Good on him.

I heard someone on the tv say that they gave up shopping at Aldi and Lidl as they can't get brands there.

We don't get our shopping at eiterh because they don't do home delivery like Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's and I sure as hell ain't going into any supermarket again. They can keep coming to us as far as I'm concerned. My time outside of work is too important to me.

i do a monday dinnertime trip to lidl and spend between 5 & 8 quid for a weeks worth of 'better than subway' sandwiches.

would use it for normal shops but there's none around near where i live

I find Aldis meat a lot better than Asdas, also the fruit and veg is far tastier. Their own brand baked beans, tomato sauce, pickle are wayyyy nicer than the leading brands imho. I am and Aldi convert lol, oh and their be light crisp are good an etc etc etc lol

lidle is good for ready meals, stuff in sauce etc, but getting hold of ingredients is a nightmare, very few herbs, and all the little bits you need to cook a meal.

aldi is better

Morrisons has gone downhill rapidly, the last lot of tinned tomatoes i got was borderline inedible, the value peppers have dissapeared, the chilli's have less flavour and the price of everything has gone up!

Can't believe the price of tinned tomatoes atm, they've gone skyhigh.

Can't believe the price of asda shopping delivery - 4-5 quid per delivery, robbing sods, they're a mile away. I'll stick to spending 30 minutes wandering round a store rather than having to wait in for an hour.

I quite enjoy wandering round the supermarket because I'm a sad cow, so I don't bother with delivery.

Google around for free delivery codes that's what I used to do 😀

Our nearest supermarket is a large co-op ( within walking distance).
I prefer to shop locally e.g butchers, baker, candle stick maker. Nothing gets thrown away then. Also the shop owners get to know you and throw in the odd freebie. 🙂

Maybe it was Mrs DezB's cooking skills regardless of chicken source.

Their Parmesan is about half the Waitrose price, never bought anything else though.

Not a very pleasant shoping experience and the staff are very surly, no doubt due to low wages

Not keen either on the way their car park is policed by very dodgy looking warden type people, think they are looking to make money at any opportunity legit or not.

Choice here is Morrisons or a brand new Lidl. Lidl wins hands down. According to she who does the shopping.

Lidl and Aldi's business model is to not offer choice but only stock "the best" of a given product. obviously depends on what the criteria is for a given product but IME most products are of a good or superior quality at any price and generally outstanding given the price you pay. standout items are the german purity law beers (in both), meat and veg. the specials isle often has some good stuff too - bought a load of cycling tops over the years and got a bamboo base layer which is my favorite t-shirt in the world for about £6!!
Lidl nachos and salsa dip is however pure howfin!

What is the meat like, is it free range etc, or intensively farmed?

Well Lidl have free-range chicken - I buy them sometimes but my wife doesn't like the pork as has a curious flavour for some reason.

I like their 'sort of' Parma ham, their cheeses and their yoghurts but get all sorts of stuff from their as it's all good. I tend to do the shopping on the way home from work and like Lidl's small stores with less choice as quickish to get around. I tend to do smaller shops and visit Tescos and Sainsbury's on other trips as like different things from different stores.

Cool, I don't buy any non-free range meat, so as long as they have it as an option, I'll give it a go.

I'm at the moment is to try new things, so I'll do my next shop there.

Maybe it's because I'm a handwring liberal, but the mere mention of Lidl reminds me of this article:

Nothing, I see lots of Waitrose bags in Lidls, with the Chelsea Tractors parked outside. 🙂

Hate all supermarkets. Interestingly, after avoiding them for 6 months, I got some kind of weird paranoia feeling when I had to use one last month. Suits me fine. Shopping locally may be more of a pain in the arse, but it isn't much more expensive and the food is loads better.
