Work your way around pushing upwards with your thumb (like you would a champagne cork). Then when its halfway out grab it a twist it. Always works for me.

Don't push up, that's how they get snapped. Hold the cork tightly and twist the body of the bottle with your other hand.
The old fashioned champagne approach works best.
Simply wrap in a tea towel and twist, firmly but gently.
That's a rule for life, I find.

Agree with above. Twist the bottle, not the cork. Same as you would with Champagne.
I've found that the colder the bottle, the harder it is to remove the cork.
I use a corkscrew if it's really stuck
