Is it possible to run LED rope lights so that they turn on/off with a PIR?
Basically, on the house we're buying, there's a step to the porch approx 3m x 1.5m. We need to replace the tiles on it and was thinking I could run some LED rope lights around the step. Ideally they would turn on when sensing movement on the drive.
I was thinking I could mount them into a conduit that runs under the edge of the step.
Is this doable?
Yes - there isn't a reason why you couldn't do this. I have never looked but I assume weatherproof LED strip lights are available.
Very easy. Either use a 12v PIR to turn the lights on or a mains PIR to control the power to the light's power supply. I'd probably go for the second option but it depends on where the wires run and where you want the sensor. All doable.
Thanks both.
Garage is next to the step so should be able to run the wiring into the garage with a sensor under the edge of the roof.
Neat idea, that might be worth looking at in my back garden, there are steps down to the patio, and my s/o goes out there for a smoke, having some fairly subtle rope lights to highlight the steps would make them safer in the dark, and much less glaring than a large spotlight.
