tried to post this a while back but either my phone or the site swallowed it and i can't see it so ....

This is the weekend Le Mans should have run but instead they are doing a virtual race. I have to admit that I've been enjoying the sim racing that's been on the past few months so will be looking in on this but not glued to the screen like I would like the real thing.

anyone else?

Is it being broadcast anywhere? I was supposed to be at either Le Mans, the Oldtimer GP, Gatebil, or the DTM this weekend so I could do with a motorsport fix...

I'm glued to my seat. Wouldn't usually give a toss about Le Mans but I miss racing so much

Have to admit its the one race a year I love watching. These days I prefer watching the WEC or The GT World Challenge Endurance Cup which was the BlancPain series before it changed. Not really watched F1 properly for years although I do still tune in for Spa and Suzuka if I can get in front of a TV

Pardon my stupidity. What is sim racing? Are these guys sitting at PlayStation consoles? So physical breakdowns are ruled out?

That's a bit like saying world cup xc is on Halfords specials.
Usually the Sim racers are on computers with expensive direct drive wheels and Sim rigs. The "pro" Sim racers will also have a streaming computer.

Entry point would be PlayStation and second hand wheel. Set up for my son was £300 for ps, wheel chair and mount.

I dont think there's breakdowns but there is damage, One guy ... ill not say who ran out of fuel after 7 laps so that ended their race. As BigDean says sim rigs can be anywhere from a few hundred pounds to as much money as you want to spend going to 10s thousands for motion set ups. Unlike the real race where damage might cause you more than a hour in the pits i think 10 minutes is about thge longest stop but i could very well be wrong with that number.

I love the real thing but this is strangely addictive. Some good drivers in the field too. I’m looking forward to seeing how the sim deals with nightfall.

We ended watching quite a bit but on the jimmy broadbent stream, a really interesting look behind the sceans as drivers talked and discussed stints and the background technical issues.
Sounds like R factor was pushed to its limit over the weekend, it was good to see pro drivers against sim racers.
Some of the virtual races have been very good as it's allowed you to see drivers without the PR restraints of teams, though they have struggled at times with the adjustment
I've changed oppinion on leclerk he got a sense of humor and not affraid to make fun of himself, truck simulator and racing in a bananna siut.
Someone at F1 need to give Lando and envolope of cash as him, lockdown and sim racing has exposed the F1 drivers to a new audiance (though you could argue they would already be interested in motorsport).

I missed not driving back via Hackett's bungie jump.
