Rainy day so my lad and I are going to watch a western. Whats good for a lad with short attention span and appetite for adventure?

The thing about most westerns is they are often quite slow. Magnificent 7 is good as is True Grit originals obviously first tjen you can watch the remakes later. My boy is about the same age, he like Cowboys and Aliens too!

Forget the westerns and let him watch "the gods must be crazy". It has goodies and baddies in it too. In fact, I may just watch it myself again.

I was going to suggest The Hateful Eight but not for a 10 year old.
As a kid I did like the early spaghetti westerns with Lee van cleef and Clint Eastwood.

*Terence Hill, more comedy than action, very funny almost slapstick fight with monks in one of them.
Caveat - there aren’t many injuns in these, which is in their favour.
Much as I love the Dollars trilogy they're maybe a bit slow for a 10 year old. Blazing Saddles is a good suggestion, but watch a few classics first as the jokes are funnier then.
Magnificent 7 of course. Three Amigos afterwards. I always liked High Noon. I was going to say Little Big Man, but it has a couple of sex scenes that might require some awkward conversations - this might also be true of some of the other suggestions. True Grit wold be good. An underrated and almost forgotten movie is A Big Hand For The Little Lady (not cowboys and Indians, but a western). Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? I watched that at about age 10.
More recent westerns: Maverick should be good for a 10 year old. Young Guns?
Texas Across The River is very good. It's got Dean Martin in and maybe you'll get away without the Thought Police arresting you for misuse of "Indians". Red lives matter too.
The remake of 3:10 to Yuma is pretty good. Young Guns would be good for a young lad maybe. Then you can wait a couple of years and rollout High Plains Drifter and Unforgiven.

Was about to agree, but I googled it and it seems many are welcoming to it over alternatives. The old terminology for the Inuit people however, is a racial slur.
All of these terms are acceptable. The consensus, however, is that whenever possible, Native people prefer to be called by their specific tribal name. In the United States, Native American has been widely used but is falling out of favor with some groups, and the terms American Indian or indigenous American are preferred by many Native people.

Loved all the Trinity films when a kid, bought them on DVD not long ago.

True Grit. Both the original and the remake. I still can't decide which is the better.
And High Noon. Loads of old black and white westerns on some of the channels. Once you watch a few you realise they reused a lot of the footage, mainly of Indians galloping over the plains.

Interesting that it’s Cowboy & Indian is the requirement? Is it that specifically or just a spat of western theme?
It’s an interesting phenomenon these days but when I were a lad I’d watch any old toot on the tv due to there being 4 channels but now it’s all on demand I don’t think I’d now watch a western at the age of 10 in favour of something more dynamic.
I've got the DVD of all 32 Casey Jones episodes. Brilliant stuff......particularly if you like trains and cowboys.
Perfect for 10 year olds of all ages.
