Anyone have experience of these? Been procrastinating about a van for a few years, decided the best bet was a VW Caddy Maxi Kombi, the idea being with seats removed it’s a one person camper/bike van and with one seat added it’s a family car for me, the enemy and our daughter.
Sadly after 2 years of looking I have never quite found the right one, the Kombi version with a tailgate and decent miles are like rocking horse poo. So lately I have begun to look at other makes and the Transit Connect Crew van LWB seems to be very similar but comes with much more kit for the money. Several sources claim the Ford is far more reliable and cheaper to fix.
Before the usual barrage begins, I do not want an estate car (that’s what I have now), I do not want an MPV. I do not want a large van.
Opinions etc?
We’ve got the new and old shape ones at work the newer fiesta looking ones are a world better than the older ones. More refined to drive less noise. Old ones are rotting all over the shop underneath and drone and rattle at any speed.
Cheers parkesie, the reputation for rust is legendary, do you think they have it sorted now or will the new ones start to rust in a year or two?
I have a 15 reg one for work. No problems with it so far. Only done 29K in it though. Coming up to 4 years and no signs of rust yet. Nice to drive, quiet and comfortable. Nicest van I have had for work.
I currently have an old, slow, noisy Combo. It serves its purpose well though and I need to keep it for at least another 2 years.
After that I want a posh van at least this size, maybe a medium Transit? I love the look of the modern Fords, but is the security still as woeful as everyone makes out?
Hmmm not a lot of crew 120ps models around for my £9k budget!
No idea if they’ve improved rust wise you’d like to think so though.
It's not rust, they're just biodegradable.
