I'm a PC duffer - i can use one but what happens inside is a mystery.

My old one (6 years old mind) is distinctly flaky, overheats, has about 4 mins battery life when not on the mains...... I think it's time.

Given it's only used for surfing, and a few basic office type tasks (running MS Office currently) - what should I buy next. Budget of around £300 ideally. I'm so unsavvy, don't even tell me how many gigathings of bytes I need in in my CPU so my DPI partitioning is up to scratch 😉 - actual hyperlinks to something with a 'Place order' button next to it are what i need!!!

Must have Office or something capable of reading my saved office dox, otherwise I don't need masses of disc space, don't need a fantastic screen for movie streaming, don't need gaming power. I need something that isn't flaky, so I can add up the household bills and send a few angry letters to the council / my MP / Santander.

I could go into PC World but then some child on day release from the local secondary school will only confuse me and make me buy something unsuitable. I trust you lot more which is a leap of faith, i know.

I recommend you go to Dell and choose what's in your budget.

This one's at £279, but jumps towards £370 if you want a new MS Office suite.

I think it would absolutely fit your bill.

+1 for Dell.
Good build quality and reasonably priced.

Avoid Toshiba.
