Need a new battery for my Acer Aspire 5535. Thought it would be about £70 so seeing them from £15-45 has cheered me up BUT there are a million sellers of these things and I have no idea where to buy one from.
I prefer a quality product, would like a longer lifespan battery and weight/size not too important as it's a bit of a monster laptop anyway!!

My personal choice would be to go to an authorised agent and buy an original replacement. There are so many Chinese clone batteries flooding the market now that are not up to scratch.

Considering your laptop is probably left plugged in when you are not home it is not worth risking some suspect cheap unit.

I got a cheap one from an amazon marketplace seller, worked ok for a couple of months, then the laptop just wouldnt boot with it in, even wwhen connected to the power supply. Really wierd, works with old battery or no battery at all, but not with the new one. Anyway ive contacted the seller and theyve been difficult, asking lots of questions that id answered already, not really reading my replies, after a bit of wrangling theyve offered a partial refund about 50%. Frustrating, ive bought others on amazon without problem but it does make sense to pay a bit extra to deal with someone a bit more professional. Usual story really.

I don't think you can get original batteries now, laptop is a bit older.
Plus last time I saw one it was £70+ and it's not worth spending that much on I don't think. £30 or so seems ok.

Saw this place and they do a range of batteries www.laptopsandspares.com/batteries/acer-batteries/acer-aspire-batteries/acer-aspire-5500-series-batteries/acer-aspire-5500-series-5535-batteries

But these guys are a bit cheaper for a much higher capacity: http://www.laptop-battery-shop.com/acer-as09a61-as09a71-111v-8800mah-replacement-batteries-p-3590.html

Slight thread hijack, but I've just recently got a new laptop, and have been trying to disconnect from mains and using the battery - is this a good way of prolonging the battery life? With my old one it was just permanently plugged in which I heard is a good way to kill batteries.

Probably.

If you're not in the habit of tripping over your power cable, you could always take the battery out.

I bought a cheap Chinese copy and copy power lead for my Mac book and all is good so far, does get a bit hot though come to think about it 😯 I got it from one of the many eBay sellers and it turned up in about a week. It was a fraction of the price of an original so I figured if it does not last as long I could just buy another. Having said all that reading the posts above if it only lasts a few months that is not so good, time will tell I suppose...

Let's just hope it doesn't catch fire.
