Can anyone point me to the best uk forum for advice / buying one.

I'm after something that's around the £3k price bracket and finding it hard what to spot between the usual hype.

I don't mind having something that I change an engine in (think a 300tdi is popular?) if it makes it considerably cheaper to start with.

Wanting a toy that can take bikes on a 100 mile round trip max but mainly for staying on the land.

Thanks

I used http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/ . I presume you mean a Defender there might be better forums for various models

Im on prettty much all of them.

landrovernet is probably the most useful for advice since it is reasonably busy, with some trade mechanics in there IMO
landyzone is probably the busiest, but it also seems to attract more pedantic arses than the others
lro is the most sensible
lr4x4 is easy to read, but can go stale for periods
defender2.net is pretty slow and not that interesting.

*sigh* I used to live Land Rovers when we had our 90. I was on LRO way more than I'm on cycling fora nowadays.

The bloke who bought it said he just wanted something to run "into the ground".

*snif*

Am I going to find a better bargain off line or ebay do you think?

What ever you buy dont make any offers till viewe.

I always found defender2.net useful for advice but just a little slow Somtimes

Shiny paint ,new seats and a big winch bumper are not always a good sign of its overall state
Oh and run away from anything td5
