Has anyone laid it in their living room? I live in a ground floor flat and with dirt, bikes etc I don't want the hassle, or expense, of real wood.
I notice Carpetright do it: Is it worth it?
Quikstep mate...we have it...love it....get good qual underlay to stop "tappy" sound 🙂
Click lock stuff is so easy and quick to fit. You need a mitre saw, a chop saw and a jigsaw though.
Did most of our house in the cheap Ikea stuff - very tough, and with the foam underlay quite a bit warmer too. I used a Bosch jigsaw with a mitre attachment for all the cutting.
Anyone used Balterio laminate flooring?
Keep an eye on the wickes website, they keep doing 30% off weekends on wood/laminate etc. Got some bamboo from them last year. Group staff discount helped with that purchase too 🙂
Is Wickes stuff any good? It's significantly cheaper than Carpetright.
the good stuff has the tounge and groove treated to resist moisture and swelling, usually a green colour, mdf based stuff much better than the chipboard type
,also look for a "balancing" layer on the floor side,
AC3 rated is ok for general domestic use AC4 a bit tougher but prob not worth the xtra.
jigsaw makes less mess than a mitre/chopsaw IMO, make sure to leave a nice gap round the room and lay it at room temperature..no really!! 😆
Thanks for the info. The Wickes site doesn't say what rating it is , or what the backing is, neither does the Carpetright site.
I've got laminate in my house, one thing to think about is what it's going to look like in a couple of years: a ding or two in wood is character, with laminate it isn't...
Oh, and a get a lighter colour, the darker the wood the more obvious dust is.
I was thinking of a lightish oak finish. Unfortunately I can't really stretch to hard wood, plus it requires more maintenance.
I've found this, which seems pretty good value:

I used the thick fibreboard underlay on mine (in the nursery) - seems to stop the floorboards creaking and deaden the sound very nicely.
giantx4 - what underlay did you use with your Quickstep? Need something with good sound deadening for my flat I am getting ready to rent out.
I have just had to rip up a new Quickstep floor due to a broken pipe connection (on I let the plumber do 👿 ) and was using those green cardboard things but they are now all in the bin as they wick water really well 🙄
This is why I built removable sections into the floor, so I could get under it if I had to 😉
that wasn't the problem. The leak was in a cupboard across the hallway that didnt have any floor yet. All the sections above anything that needs access have access panels but the water wicked along the cardboard like underlay for a couple of days 🙁
Can't say about the Wickes laminate, but the bamboo i got have survived the boy dragging, dropping and scooting stuff over it and still looks as good as when i laid it.
My dad bought some of the £4.99m2 stuff from b&q about 8 years ago and it still looks good. Just don't mop it like some people do!
I looked at bamboo but because my kitchen and living room is effectively the same floor space I discounted it because it may get wet occasionally.
