Question for the STW hive mind. How difficult is getting a decent finish on laminate skirting, especially when it will require joins to cover the walls?
Should I stick with MDF or wood? The prospect of not having to paint it is quite appealing.
Use pre-primed mdf. Only requires one or two coats of gloss/eggshell once it's done.
Or buy softwood - but knot, prime (front and back), undercoat before it goes on the wall. Top coat once it's on. Any joins on laminated skirting will look shite IMO (and in IME).
Softwood painted is best finish.
Hmm, that's what I was thinking. The gloss work is a job for the missus anyway 😀
I put some on in Germany (white, laminated) for a mate - they're mad for it there. It looked awful (he was supposed to overpaint it but didn't 😡 ). The problem is that wherever you cut, scribe in an internal corner or do an external mitre, the join will always show up as a black line. There's not much you can do about tarting it up either.
Cool, I'll give it a miss. We're don't want to stretch to solid wood as we're moving in the not to distant future [hopefully]. MDF it is!
Thanks again!
No probs.
