The wife has a 'normal' kindle and quite fancy one as well and I'd also like a tablet - for general forum use, as our laptop is nackered and typing on the phone gets tedious.
However, does the Fire have any advantage over just buying a google nexus (or similar) - is it any better than any other tablet for reading?
Don't get a Kindle
They don't have access to google play only their own Kindle app store which is very limited
loads of apps missing like Flipboard , Gumtree , Sky apps etc
Get the Nexus. The Kindle Fire is a good tablet (Ex had one of the 1st gen) but Android has been modified and you'll be locked to the App store. I found Amazon charged for some Apps on their store when they were free on Google Pay.
(atleast with the 1st gen Kindle Fires) Its easy to flash to rom to stock Android, but this would then void the warranty. The Nexus should also be getting updates quicker than pretty much any other Android tablet too.
Only reason I can think to go for a Fire is if you've got a LoveFilm subscription; the Android streaming app is an Amazon exclusive.
Have a Kindle Fire works perfectly well for most stuff but I suspect the browser would be better on the nexus etc.
Mrs is never off hers so yes
