I know, way to re-enter the forum after a couple of months absence (life getting in the way etc)!! So - going for the designer stubble look for a while so need a beard trimmer. Don't want to spend a lot,£40 max - energy bills to consider - so do people recommend to keep a beard at 3-5mm?

I've got one of these. Worked for years.

I rarely use the guard, just go at my face.

In fact a guard gets used to keep eyebrows in check.

Either grow a full set where you only need scissors for a trim or go clean shaven.
Think Gimli or George Clooney.
Anything in between is either...can't or won't.

I had something cheap, then something with a vacuum. Then picked up one of these cheap.

That is 50 (normally 80)

Way better than the others. Use one length for beard and occasionally the nose trimmer. But the main cutter is just much better than the previous and supposedly self sharpening.

I’ve got a Babyliss one I bought years ago, works fine, I used it to cut my hair down to stubble during the first lockdown when nothing else was available.

I had a Wahl one that I ended up not using because it had the wrong plug on, so I used the one we bought for clipping the dogs' hair. Surprisingly effective at cutting beard.

Anyway, I have a new beard trimmer now.

I'm now at the point of using mains powered Wahl hair clippers for the main beard and then tidying up the bits that need to be neat with a Philips Oneblade. Hair clippers with a #1 on once a week. Being mains powered gives them the grunt to just blast through it in no time.

I use a Remington cordless which does both hair and beard. It has a raked guard that varies length of trim, and a pop-up detail trimmer. I use it without the guard for my head, and it does a pretty good job of a "zero" .

Having had a Remington for years until the battery died and now a One Blade for a couple of years, get a proper beard trimmer. Much more convenient for a 3/4 length weekly trim. I’m waiting for the One Blade to die before I get another. Both sons have the Remington.
