Thanks Matt.

Just did another boring mining trip, got 248t of LTDs. I could have sold them for 1.6m each but only to the Empire, and **** the Empire. My in-game principles are apparently worth over 100mCr 🙂

Made my biggest haul ever yesterday in a newly outfitted Conda.

291T of LTDs sold for just of 1.5m a ton. 440 million credits! Ch-ching!
Nearly lost it all to an NPC pirate in a Mamba. I was feeling cocky and when he asked me to drop to 10T of cargo I tried to fight him. But in my haste to outfit the Conda I hadn't fitted any Chaff or Shield Boosters. He dropped my shields pretty quick and then started spamming me with missiles! He got my hull down to 60% and I legged it (well as fast as a Conda can manage)

Not sure what to make of the Anaconda, it feels like driving a bus - even compared to a Python. I really don't fancy using it for combat against anything remotely well armed and agile. I don't really fancy it for core mining either, might just stick to surface mining and trading.

I don't regret buying it, I made back the cost of the ship plus outfitting in one mining run, but I can't see it being a favourite either. I might call it "The Ship With No Name"

Two incredible hauls, the STW mining crew showing its credentials.

Loving the commitment to bringing down the Empire, are you ranking up it the Federation?

That's good pirating for an NPC! I might have dropped the 10t, cos I love that RPG part of the game (or try it on and drop 5 and run!). As I've said, the run to the station to sell is one of the things I look forward to, after the calm of the mining.

I get the feeling that for combat, an Anaconda needs to be 'tuned'. It can survive as you've shown, but to win you would need to use all of it's capability.

I'm already decent rank in the Federation but I forget what it is 🙂

Not sure what to make of the Anaconda, it feels like driving a bus – even compared to a Python. I really don’t fancy using it for combat against anything remotely well armed and agile.

I like flying mine, and I like having shitloads of space. My mining loadout has two class 5 collector limpet controllers for example and still space for 256t of limpets and hopefully LTDs; and also a huge pulse laser and two turreted large MCs for defence. And still hull and module reinforcement etc. I coudl swap one of those for a SLF even if I wanted more defence.

Top tip though - do all your mining and money making before you level up in combat 🙂 I only get Cobras and stuff for pirates, they don't last long. In fact, when I land in a ring now they just fly over and just leave without scanning me 🙂

388m in the bank, I think I'll buy myself an 8A power plant and some armour, and then the Anaconda will be mostly done bar the engineering. I know I can get lots of passengers in it, but I think I fancy a Beluga anyway 🙂

Or I could just keep the money and save up for a fleet carrier.

I don't dislike the Conda, it feels kind of cool seeing the bow away out in front of you and I like the fact you have to think ahead when docking. Its got a pretty reasonable yaw rate too which makes pointing it at rocks to fire off prospectors quite easy.

I think I need to play around with the loadout a bit more. I invested in the 8A power plant straight away so I can pretty much run whatever I want. I've got 3 medium mining lasers, 2 large beams, 2 small missile launchers a huge MC and 4 shield boosters and I'm not even close to capacity on the power plant!

I might just turret all the weapons and stack another 2 shield boosters and just fly through combat zones safe in the knowledge nothing can scratch me

Yeah it took me a fair few iterations and is still an open question. The placement of the hardpoints is quite important, they can't all fire on the same target unless it's in front of you.

I might just turret all the weapons and stack another 2 shield boosters and just fly through combat zones safe in the knowledge nothing can scratch me

That's what I've got, except for the huge HP which has a pulse laser on it. With the turrets set to 'fire at will' it's pretty cool - they focus on whatever is nearby whilst I try to bring the huge pulse laser to bear on a target. There are *a lot* of pew pews 🙂

My Big Pink 'Conda is just set for mining at the mo - if I don't need it to blag LTDs, it ain't there. Only one collector limpet, and a lower-rated shield (way too easy to bash into things in it!), no cruise, no docking computer, so running to sell is scarily manual. On the plus side, that means it'll hold 384 tons, plus another ten in the refinery - I was hoping to park it and wait for a RichMTB-like spike in the market, last time I filled her up, but that's when I found out cargo goes with you when you swap ships. 🙁

Explorers, are you filtering your route by star type?

For long trips I always filter out brown dwarfs and tauri stars, these aren't scoopable and never have anything but icy bodies orbiting them anyway. I sometimes filter out red-dwarves too, these are scoopable but they very rarely have anything interesting orbiting them so generally aren't the best for exploration data.

I leave in the non sequence stars as although there is never much orbiting them, the stars themselves are worth quite a bit in exploration data, and neutron stars and black holes are just cool anyway.

I filter out the same ones as you Rich. It also saves breaking the route when you get in a brown dwarf field and start panicking that you're going to run out of fuel.

No ED for me for a while, had to send the laptop back to PCS last week as it had countless issues, fans not working thus the cpu/gpu would sit at >85c without cooling, wifi/lan kept dropping, speaker jack working intermittently and had a serious crackle to the sound when it did. Not impressed so will be getting a refund and building an sffpc like I should have done. Missing my ships!

Oh, great - first day off furlough and the price of LTDs has spiked to a tidy 1.6 mill in a couple of places. What are the odds the market has tanked by the time I get online...? 🙁

Hmm... was going to not bother mining for a while as I've got 1.5bn but at that price I might change my mind.

I still need to get to Imperial rank "Outsider" so i can unlock the Laser engineer.

Which engineer is that? I'm not as anti-empire as molgrips, but I have no plans to help them at all.

@matt_bl Broo Tarquin sp? He is the only guy in the bubble that does G5 upgrades on Lasers. The alternative is a trip to Colonia to unlock the guy there. But even in an Aspx with a really good jump range its 2 nights of jumping to get to Colonia.

I'm nor sure I value my in game principles that highly.

If it makes it better I'll fly to an anarchy system after i've done it and only shoot Imperial ships!

Ah yep, I see it now. Damn he covers all lasers up to 5. At the minute Colonia would be 475 standard jumps in my Krait, that's nine days play time each way, if I scan as much as I have done on this trip.

Loving the karma payback, perhaps there's some kind of 'enemy of my enemy' trick I could pull? Or a rescue mission, that could sit ok.

There’s several, covering quite a lot of stuff, apparently. Loooong way to go though 😳
Frontier Devs introduce Colonia engineers

Very jealous of your progress chaps 😏I’ve had hardly any personal time to dedicate to Elite over the last fortnight; still stuck in an AspX with ‘only’ about 30mil to my name. Should get some opportunity soon though; Sunday Monday and Tuesday evenings coming have been pencilled in for a bit of Elite and Dangerous fun. 😎😎😎😎

When mining is it worth having multiple mining lasers?

Ooh, I could spend my cash on a T10 instead of a Beluga..!

Yes, I think it speeds up the rate of fragment production. If I remember you have two class 5 collectors, so you want them to be fed.

Makes no difference for abrasion blasters.

THIS! Dammit, I did wonder how everyone else managed. Game changer.

Got into Seagull this morning. Pootled about. Bored. 127 jumps back to Krull or wherever the other Engineer lives, no direct path to Flic. Gonna be a long trip.

How do you do that on the PS4?

Just properly discovered how to use the system scanner.finding loads of stuff now.

Going to go another k or so then turn into Sag A.

It's not super clear, but in the Galaxy map there are multiple tabs for the info on the left hand side. On one of the tabs there is a list of government types (this is the default, but there is a drop down above which can change it to economy, allegiance etc.) which can be toggled to show/not show. Either below this list or on another tab (sorry I'm at work and only discovered this during my current trip) you can list star types, toggle KGB FOAM stars on, then at the bottom of the list is a filter route toggle button, put this on and robert's your mother's brother.

I love the nonchalant, just a couple more junctions then I'll take a left for Sag A! How far is that? How many hours do you reckon it has taken?

Isn't it half. I've gone off to get some Meta Alloys and in doing that I've had to learn about Fuel Scoops, Thargoids and the FSS scanner. Still a whole lot I don't know but that is part of the fun.

One thing which is causing me grief is moving around the galactic map - when going on my meta-alloy journey I noticed I couldn't easily find places that were populated to refuel/restock - not that I couldn't use the filters but that I couldn't interpret the map and move about to select the stars.

Yeah your map display has a a grid plane in it, and it'll only let you select stars that are within a certain distance above or below the plane - where you get the vertical blue line. So you'll need to press the left or right of the touchpad to raise and lower the plane. You'll also need to zoom in and out and move around when you move the map plane, cos of the way they've drawn it. Annoying, but not too bad once you get the hang of it.

The star map can be pretty frustrating. On the Xbox its often quicker just to type in the star name rather than zoom in and out and up and down to allow you to pick the star you want.

I've got lots of places bookmarked to speed things up

If you have a bluetooth keyboard you can plug the dongle into the xbox and it makes typing the star names much quicker.

Not sure if you can use the keyboard for other, more useful stuff like selecting fire groups or anything.

I suspect not and that any keyboard / mouse functionality is accidental rather than an integral part of the game.

I'm 3.5k ly away in 3 evenings, but until this last 300ly or so I was just honk and run. I've been going around the spiral and down a good chunk to get to less discovered areas so I'm still the 26k ly from SagA.

I think accidentally I've headed towards Colonia, do I might go there first to get another fuel tank as 32t is a little light.

Cheers for the heads up on the sub menus - will have another root around in there.

It's the same for the PS4 you can have a keyboard but it will only work in typing interfaces.

I have the same thing as Rich, anywhere I think I'll need to go more than a couple of times and it gets its own bookmark, you can customise the names. Anywhere you have a ship will be tagged in the map, but you still have the same moving/zooming issue to get a lock.

Thanks @Saccades that agrees with the pace I've done, between 1k to 1.5kLy per evening. The best thing I did on my Krait Phantom was a 6A fuel scoop (in the largest optional internal). It fills at 878 (whatever the unit is) which means I can top up after a 45Ly jump while moving round the star. I have a 5C fuel tank (32t), but with that rate of refill it doesn't matter.

I have v similar setup, but after the 64 ton fuel load on the AspX I feel I've too little a safety margin, it's only 4 jumps or so in the anaconda.

Should be safer with the choosing of correct stars on route though.

I was a little underwhelmed with the Phantom. Have gone back to my Asp X as an explorer. Ditched the fuel tank and went for a 6A scoop instead so will be scooping more but will be doing a proper explore rather than honking and jumping

I got one step closer to unlocking the Laser engineer yesterday. I ranked up to "Outsider" with the Empire.

Next up I have to bring the first engineer 50 tons of Kamitra Cigars - these are only available in Kamitra (obvs!). But you can't buy 50t in one go. So I have to take whatever I get fly them back to the engineer then turn around and get more until I have 50t.

Then I have to spam upgrades with her (that I may or may not need) to unlock the next engineer.

His requirement is that I'm at least "Competent" for combat, thankfully that box is ticked, but then to unlock him I need 50t of Fuijin Tea (yes really!) So I have to fly back and forth between his base and Fuijin until I have the tea.

Fun gameplay huh!

If you had a fleetcarrier you could do that in a oner! To be fair a good Kamitra Cigar, with a cup of Fuijin Tea or Lavian Brandy, can't beat it.

I need 5% for competent, though I don't think I am.

I'm going for a peep at my first black hole later.

I'm sincerely hoping that there's something about it that's so black, it's like how much more black could this be?

And the answer is none.

None more black.

Well, the thing about space, right, is that it's black. And the thing about black holes, right, is that they're also black. So how're you supposed to see 'em?
