It was 4chan that trolled journalists into thinking that was the case.
They’re currently working on turning the rainbow flag into a nazi hate symbol. Give it a couple of years.

Read that yesterday, gutted.
It’s one of my favourites, and very few people use it now, made me feel a bit hipster. I feel like a part of my personality has been stolen.

And then the a,t-right caught on and adopted it. Thing is, this list of ‘symbols of hate’ has been compiled by one group of people, I’m not sure that the majority of people will pay it much mind, at least as far as that particular gesture is concerned; things like the KKK have much greater and widespread recognition as something abhorrent and hateful.
Including Trump would go further, I feel...

I use it a lot. Best way to remove a hijacked meaning is to carry on using it as far as I'm concerned.
