Passed away yesterday, brilliant song writer.
Yes I did see that, it was Spotify that got me listening to him , so many fellow musicians giving him big respect
This video was released last week when he went into hospital was really heartwarming:
John was a writer and singer I came to late, through Jeffrey Foucault & Redbird covering 'Hello in There' and 'Let's talk dirty in Hawaiian', but he's another one that I think I don't know much of his stuff, then listen to an album and sing to every track.
As a mate with similar taste in music put it, "RIP John, say hi to Guy and Townes."
“RIP John, say hi to Guy and Townes.”
And lets put Kris Kristofferson and Steve Earle in isolation for a while.
Marc Maron has made his interview with John available again. Really good interview. When I get to Heaven is such a good song to go out on, I love his last album but have never gotten round to listening to his older stuff. He tells a lovely story about when he was being treated for throat cancer and how one of the guys treating him made a shield to protect his vocal chords and John basically said, don't worry about it have you never heard me sing. I think there might also be a good interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air a couple of years ago where he told that story.
And lets put Kris Kristofferson and Steve Earle in isolation for a while.
Let’s put Del McCoury in there as well.
I'd genuinely never heard of him.
I expect many havent.
Bob Harris turned me onto JP.
And Guy Clark.
I've posted this loads of times, but today I'm struggling to get past the intro.......
And if you can get hold of it, this is a fine album, with so many wonderful artists I'd not heard of before......:format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-5451005-1459940855-1369.jpeg.jpg)
He's been guesting with Roger Waters recently on his folky type outings. Lovely songs. RIP.
Saw him at Cambridge Folk Festival in 2018,a great songwriter and performer and a tragedy that a virus got him after surviving his previous health issues.
