I'm jobless as of the end of March. Anyone need a Java or business rules developer?
i feel a "STW redundant club" coming on, ala fat club?

<Joins>
Architect, anyone need an architect?
I'm already jobless. I'm currently searching the net for jobs. Oh, errr...
Bugger sorry to hear that guys.
Suppose I should do some paperwork but think I'll stay at home and do it.
Welcome to the great unwashed I was binned on friday 13th (lucky for who)
Any jobs for electricians in the devon/ somerset area
Been a state sponsored MTB rider/climber since mid-November. Trying to find something that pays a little better but has similar amounts of riding/climbing time! No luck yet though 😆
LOL, likewise for me Sandwich!
In fact it was exactly 2 months ago to the day that I was escorted to the front door of the building and shown off site.
"Oh yes", they added, "Happy Christmas".
My redundancy date is the 27th of this month.
On a plus side my redundancy money is paying for a T4 VW camper with a bike rack on it :D. I am going to have plenty of time to use it.
I was made redundant too. On the 9th Jan officially, but told in early December.
Anyone need a process/development engineer (mechanical) in the Peterborough area??!!
Doesn't appear to be many jobs out there. Not really getting anywhere with it..... 🙁
Im also not working but different circumstances, half way into two years hoilday,
Some times it's better to jump than be pushed,
And OZ is just starting it's slide into recession.
may as well ride my bike till next year!
I am a contractor. So I've got no redundancy payment. Of course, since I was paid so highly I've saved a huge sum of money and not spent it on a car, a house and bikes.
On the plus side, the job was doing my head in, and I've got some good leads from another company.
I wish.
I find out tomorrow if I join this club.
I find out tomorrow if I join this club.
good luck!
Been jobless since the start of June lasy year. Three months off with a broken shoulder and no contracts, and very few perm jobs, since then 🙁
Anyone need a geologist?
Moi aussi, anyone need an economics grad with masters in management + finance??!

Should we start a business?

- electrician
- process/development engineer
and a
- geologist...
perhaps not.
We could build a house on very good foundations
If anyone has any experience in IT consultancy from a sales/management point of view, I'm considering starting something.
House building, count me in as the H&S bloke. Price may have just gone up though!
Not yet, But I will be redundant sometime between 27th April and 24th Dec 2009. Just as soon as we've successfully transferred all of our machines, processes & jobs to the Czech Republic.
On the plus side our company has a very strong Ethics & Integrity policy - indeed in the US head office they have a whole department focussed on it. So when our savings are spent & the bank manager comes round to repossess the house at least I'll know I was f*cked over in an ethical manner
Process/manufactuing, Six sigma and Lean Engineer looking for something near Swindon
I was made redundant in November, however I have tracked down a job and things are looking better.
AndyPaice, where abouts are you based, as I know of a geotech / environmental job in Devon / Somerset with a firm called Tweedie Evans, and the firm I work for may need a contract engineer up in Manchester for a SI we have up there
Neil.
molgrips were you the guy who had experience of ILOG ?
currently going through the 90 day consultation, end of April i find out when they plan to start the redundancies, i may have an option to move to Chester, will have to do some thinking, job and move, find a job and stay.
That's me, andywhit - I'm one of the most experienced people in the country apparently...
Got something for me? 🙂
Well we might be looking for a Java person, ideally Websphere App Server J2EE skills also. And we do use ILOG although there's no development in that area currently but nice to have coverage.
Nice, where/what? I'm all over the J2EE but only dabbled with Websphere itself.
Oh and I can help you upgrade to JRules 6 🙂
trb - you could try Linac - they were into that sort of thing and they're a good bunch of people based near cheltenham.
Intercede (based J20 M1) are still looking for c++/javascript/html/xml developers + testers - we can't find anyone.
Good look to all those looking
Booted mid Jan after being booted from a 6 year post last July.
A note on debt. The wonderful Payment protection insurances that I have paid hundreds of pounds too for loan and credit card won't pay up. Because my last job was less than 6 months the insurance is not liable. Hardly surprising they found some way out.
So note to self and others out there. If you are working and haven't been in position for 6 months I would suggest that you check if you are paying said insurance. It would seem that you may as well save the money until 6 months and a day is passed.
btards
I had PPI on a credit card. Binned it straight away when I tried to claim. I'd been made redundant, didn't claim - got a temporary job, then couldn't find work again. I'd been looking for either temp or perm. So they said because it was a temp job I wasn't eligible. If I'd NOT taken the work that was available I could've claimed...
Stupid.
BTW - any of you with engineering/project engineering/management sales etc have a look at www.waterjobs.co.uk, not as many as when I first looked last July and got the job that just bumped me, but still a few all over.
Esp if you don't mind considering UEA
Find out tomorrow
I did exactly the bloody same moles. Didn't claim last summer as I was convinced I'd get a job quick (which I did) and would have had my claim accepted, but cos of only working 3.5 months given the door.
Nice, it's not just bankers that are bankers. Insurance co's probably worse.
Location is West London, security clearance required.
All us bods at ITV Yorkshire find out rather publically on march 4th wether we all get canned or not.
molgrip - what are you thinking of starting and where?
So far my PPI is paying up.
But yes as a general rule I agree - banks, credit card co and insurance have been the worst people I've had to deal with in the aftermath of being made redundant.
Recruiment agencies aren't quite as bad but I'm beginning ot be a tad annoyed either at hearing nothing or at being called up by some bloke telling me there's a job as a analytical chemist going in the north of Scotland for £14k/yr and they will be putting my name forward for it...
If you are gonna make it a "Grand Designs" type house and need some structural engineering doing, I am your unemplyed man
Hopefully someones looking for 2 architects because Im in too
I was thinking of starting up offering consultancy related to my business rules experience. Maybe become an ILOG partner - sell their software, and sell consultancy to go with it. BRMS (business rules management systems) is a big area atm, but people haven't got experience with it so they don't know how to a) create systems around the concept and b) to mange and do the development.
Problem is I don't think I can do it on my own. I'm really an architect/developer, I can do sales and management but it'd be a stretch and I don't think I could do both.
Hopefully someones looking for 2 architects because Im in too
Mate, we are buggered. I'd say two years until it picks up.
molgrips: where are you based, could have an opening for a Java developer with knowledge of ILOG. Whats your SQL/PL/SQL like?
Hey, this is cool 🙂
I'm in Cardiff but will travel. SQL is decent, PL/SQL less so but I can get by and I learn fast.
Let me work with you to actualise a solution for you going forward...
Architects, I fancied extending my kitchen. Who'll do it for the least? 🙂 course, that depends on the above job offers 😉
