With 2 weeks to go, expecting a contract extension, I'm told that's changed and I'm out.

Fair enough, I don't like it and I was looking anyway.

Anyone want any software or websites written? Let me know 🙂

Good luck with the job hunting but on the plus side its sunny (ish) outside, think of all the training you can do!

Yeah there are a fair few things, and I haven't even been looking to be honest. Got some savings too.

Still - a bit annoying to have the option taken away but there you go, that's contracting!

Well if anyone is looking for perm back-end development jobs with C# and Oracle pl/sql can contact me (email in profile), either based in Cambridge or possibly Bristol. A few years of quality experience and decent pl/sql skills are required though 🙂

Depends on the site an your budget marcus. Simple online shop for your single employee business, I'm probably not your man.

I'll be jobless at the end of the month but luckily have "long holiday" plans for August-October which I may extend. If anyone knows of any media-type jobs (video editing, photoshop, graphics/animation/motion graphics, sound design etc), even the odd bit of low-paid freelance work, give me a shout 🙂

Molly... if we fail at world domination I do work for an IT company and we're always paying put for f'ing contractors to help build our new web-based platform...

I'll see what vacancies are left in the budget and project plans.

Er let's see.. contracts have been, since 2002 - 3mo, 14mo, 2.5mo, 4yr, 3mo, 18mo, 6mo.

Accomodation for those, respectively, was - B&B and working train commute, moved house, B&B, moved house, commuted, stayed away on expenses, rented flat away with family.

Alpin - Saturday is a bit busy, could possibly do Sunday morning again...

DD - yeah I was going back to Cardiff anyway, the idea was to work from London for the same people then have a break for the baby and come back to Germany. Well.. their idea anyway, I was stringing them along because I really didn't want to work here any more.

I got the boot last week after 11 months of bringing in business, good margin, working all the hours possible and putting on a stone in weight through not riding as much as I should.

2 interviews next week and one at the end of the month are confirmed. So fingers crossed I'll have something to come back to after SSWC's and spend the time up to it training on the guiness

Thanks for the info. I didn't realise you could end up on a contracting for the same place for 4 years. That's pretty good if the place is well good!

Molgrips, if you're heading back to Caerdydd, get in touch. Any interest in teaching computing? I know of an opening.

Go on jobserve or jobsite, select 'contract' and apply to anything you can do. But ONLY apply for stuff you've got good solid skills in, because they get loads of chancers who are sure that they can pick stuff up on the job (and probably can) but agents can't sell that to their clients.

😉

All the best molgrips - I'm sure you won't have too much trouble finding something. I'm currently still caught in the dilemna of knowing I should apply for stuff, but I'd really like another couple of months off first! 3 local jobs which would suit currently listed - on the one hand I should probably apply for anything suitable going, on the other, I'm getting the impression there is more out there than I expected (and not a huge glut of people with suitable skills in the area).

We're based in south leics and are always looking for good web developers / application developers (javascript/xsl or c++). Tend to be looking for perms rather than contractors - don't know if that's any help

Yeah it's looking ok so far (touch wood). Got an as-yet unarranged interview in Cheltenham which would be ideal really, or as ideal as a job an hour away could be.

Problem is I really want that job so it's making me get all hopeful and be less inclined to apply for other stuff...!

Saxon - YGM in a minute.

Cheers StuF - hopefully still contracting tho, and I'm not so hot on C++ either 🙂
