I'm really excited, probably shouldn't be but can't help it. They've invited me to an interview! Got a call yesterday, interview today.
Wish me luck! I really need it and it's what I want to do.

a bit of table banging too. Don't forget to demand 80k plus a car. These people only understand strength.

How much does an average bike shop manager earn? Important to know, I suppose.

I HAVE GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!! WHISKY TONIGHT!!!!!!!! Jeez, it was almost too easy, but somebody needed to make the position theirs. Starting next week, then off to Dublin to a 10-day [s]piss-up[/s] family gathering and then back to work. Happy days ahead!

Bonthrone Bikes in Fulham. I used to go there when I was studying nearby so it was a no-brainer to apply. If it works out there'll be a decent LBS for the locals there, promise!

Nice one. You should seriously congratulate yourself as in the current climate there seem to be hundreds of people applying for every position advertised. A job and something you enjoy is a rare combination these days!

Samurai, I also added I wanted a PA who'll give me a BJ every morning, lunchtime and whenever required. They said yes to it too, not 😉

I thought Bonthrone in Fulham folded a while back?

I remember buying a very cheap (like 75% off RRP) BMX there many years ago, and know a couple of people who bought their MTBs with big discounts in the sales... But I was under the impression they went under!

Congratulations anyway Hairy... Well done mate, hope it works out for you. Now get selling lots of expensive bikes to rich people in Fulham! 😉

I hope you can get Bonthrone mail order service working. It's cr@p. They are so bad that I had to get my credit card company to get my money back. Bonthrone took the money and didn't send the goods(which they are not supposed to do), refused to answer emails, and when I rang the guy I wanted was always "on the phone and he'll ring you back". Never did. Even after recorded delivery letters they did nothing. Eventually I went to my credit card co and they gave me a refund and presumably took the money off Bonthrone. I've heard of others with a similar story.

Good luck, and I hope it works for you.

I'm supposed to have a lot of freedom there and the shop itself has gone without a manager for yonks. The owners know it's going to be painful but they want improvements. If I succeed it'll mean suffering for Evans, Halfords and Action Bikes, makes me want to do well even more.
The important thing is to let me know what needs improving, seriously. I remember the shop from years ago and it was cool, it isn't nowadays. Give me a hand, we'll all benefit. Thanks for your support.
BTW It sounds really serious, the above paragraphs, all I want to say is "Bring it on!".

Pop in and be the first one to buy!

I live nowhere near Fulham mate! That and I'm on the hunt for a job myself, so won't be buying bikes for a while I'm afraid!

Well done though, decent sized shop in a decent location, get stuck in and let us all know how it's going...

Right, so what I need:
1. a kettle
2. a pot
3. tea
4. milk
5. biscuits
6. a radio
Am I missing anything important?
BTW If any, and I do mean any, vacancies are known to me I'll let you know.

Congrats Hairy.

For a good shop you need good staff that are friendly and know their stuff, but also are capable of listening to the customer. Good stock helps but isn't essential. Must be able to get pretty much anything in though. Thern of course fair pricing, yep I'll pay a bit more for some bits than the internet costs, but don't rip me off for stuff I need NOW...a sensible mark up. If a customer asks if yuo can price match, listen and think about it, then make a sensible offer. That's my views. Do that and you are off to a good start.

Neil

Thanks, that's really useful. More please!
BTW Any bike nuts local to Fulham who build wheels well here? Just in case (we all can fix gears and chat up 19 years old virgins from the area so it might be useful).

LOL

MANY years ago I worked in Hammersmith, so Fulham was only just round the corner and I used to pop into Bonthrone then like I said... And I can build wheels!

I fear the only 19 year old virgins you might find though will be virgins for a reason... 😉

need good staff that are friendly

yep. I want staff who neither treat me like an idiot nor try and ignore me. i don't want you to fondle my crotch but I really need someone who at least makes the effort to show that they care, so many shops(not just bike shops) employ staff who clearly couldn't care less.

I won't fondle your crotch as I might learn you're more of a man than me 😉 If you're a lovely lady though, hmmmmm.......
Hell, I think I've had enough of those lovely Scotch Liquors tonight. Good Night, everybody!

hi, HC.

Don't want to put a mocker on things, but tread very carefully. Things may not be all they seem. Keep your eyes wide open, and accept responsibility for nothing that's happened before you started.

well done, and good luck.

I remember Bonthrone from a fair few years ago- used to be a busy shop, lot of high end kit. Bought a sale Cannondale there once.
It's had it's share of 'issues' though- I thought it was gone for good til the website started popping up again in searches- thought it was an old site that didn't get taken down, then that it was a scam.

TBH, I'm surprised it's still trading under the same name.

I was semi-joking as I only live in Walton 😛

In any case good luck and if I'm ever passing Fulham and can stop to look at bikes I'll come and make a nuisance of myself.
