Yes this is the most serious topic in my life at the moment.....is it me or do Jerseys taste of F£$% all nowadays.
I love this time of year and eat the little balls of splendour with nearly everything for about 3 weeks, I have tried loads of supermarket ones and they taste of jack shit!
Any one reccomend any, Waitrose etc.. ?
Try your local farm shop.
+1 for the farm shop.
Morrisons ones were tasting proper rank last year and not bothered since.
Try your local farm shop.
Only if your farm shop is on jersey. Otherwise they would just be new potatoes.
Get on the Charlotte's instead.
I agree. Jersey royals have lost that 'ooh, jersey royals' touch. I don't know if its because they are now more mass produced, or if other potatoes have upped their game.
Any farmers in the house to let us know?
Never mind Jersey Royals, next year grow yourself some Epicures! Hard to beat!! The only downside is that they need to be eaten within 24 hours of digging.

+1000 this year, last year our local greengrocer & supermarket had them in, and they were superb (& I'm not a potato lover) this year even with my own home grown Mint they are very insipid 🙁
I have no opinion or advise on Jersey Royals, but I do know that Cox apples ain't what they used to be.
So if anyone knows where I can get Cox apples who's pips rattle when the apple is shaked, like what they did when I was a kid, I will be eternally grateful to them.
I think supermarkets fobbing off apples as Coxes, even though their pips don't rattle when you shake them, is a ****ing disgrace, quite frankly.
Long dry spring, not much rain, if will effect the taste.
I had some M&S ones on Monday without knowing what they were and went "oooh jersey royals" if that's any kind of recommendation
Off your local market stall or the local farmers market. They are also sold loose so you cam buy want you want 🙂
Or just grow your own 'International Kidney' - that's what they're called when they're not grown in Jersey. Mine taste better than anything you can buy, from soil to belly in less than 30 mins rather than all that faff from Jersey to wholesaler to retailer to you.
Pink Fir Apples FTW 🙂
i was expecting you to have sage advice on the spuds not the apples dd 😉
Racist !
i read something about this recently, its due to them growing slightly different varieties which produce better yields and more pest / mould resistant. Unfortunately these varieties have much less taste. They are also grown more intensively than before (due to the demand now) and these methods of growing can also change the taste slightly.
I love little balls of splendour
pervert 😉

Racist !
Too right!
I despair...loads of varieties in the supermarket and they all taste the ****in' same!
Kerrs Pinks also FTW.
+1 for Pink Fir Apples!
