Well, these were mentioned on here recently and it must be 20 years since I last ate them. A pack has been duly purchased and, my goodness, what a disappointment. 🙁

Chocolate outer layer has been replaced by an anaemic wafer thin synthetic tasting coating. Biscuit does not taste of anything!

They used to be a fairly substantial biscuit but feel they have become narrower, lighter and tasteless. Humph!

Is it just me?

(A still-peckish C_G)

Getting old rule number 23:

Never try things you thought where good as a child. They will ALWAYS disappoint. This includes computer games, TV shows, sweets and rope swings.

You calling me old sofatester??

I'm never disappointed with 'old-fashioned' sweets. 🙄

Or not, as current research has proven. 🙁

Shall I contact Trading Standards?

'if you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit' - fraudulent claim.

I feel ripped off. 😯

You calling me old sofatester?

No, it was a very indirect form of flattery*.

Child = Under 16

<16 + 20 = <36

why oh why did you do that? It's much better to live with the happy chunky orangey clubby memories than go and get some real life modern ones that are bound to be rubbish. I'm writing to my MP.

My MP is Dave. I'll write to him too. This could be The Big Society in action.

I'm only glad I read this thread before racing down the shops to get a packet myself. I'm actually slightly depressed about the whole thing now. 🙁

*eats some Green & Blacks Orange & Spice infused chocolate to commiserate*

been there, done that. I saw some in a shop a while ago and got all wistful and nostalgic and put money down and took my biccies. Did a ritualistic unwrapping and put a coffee on. I was proper disappointed I couldn't nibble big chunks off the sides and then seperate the orangey paste out. **** you Jacobs.

sofatester - love the flattery. 😉 Yes, I'm not a day over 36. 8)

Kevevs - glad it's not just me that's disappointed!

TSY - oh yes, do be a good citizen! But what is this G & B Orange & Spice? Will I need to pop out to Waitrose again? Should I put anything else on my shopping list?

Tunnocks? Prefer the snow-covered ones to caramel (can't remember what they're called).

Didn't a similar thing happen to Wagon Wheels, in that they got smaller? It's a disgrace. 👿

C_G - It's great stuff. Waitrose closes in 8 mins so you might be out of luck. It goes very well with Armagnac or a decent red though 🙂

If I remember correctly the origonal club biscuits were a chocolate flavoured coating and not the real thing, the same with wagon wheels. So maybe they made them smaller due to the expense of replacing with real milk chocolate.

I need to get a life, knowing too much about chocolate is not healthy.

Woody - all Tunnocks edibles never ever disappoint 🙂

+1 for tunnocks, wafers or the marshmallow, jam, biscuit things! perhaps these companies should create a new version of these 'classics' which are the same size in adult hands as they were in a childs? mmm...

what is this G & B Orange & Spice?
- don't worry if you didn't make it to Waitrose in time, that stuff's synthetic tasting ming.

+1 for tunnocks, wafers or the marshmallow, jam, biscuit things!

For shame! Tunnocks Teacakes don't have jam in. I think you're confusing them with one of the lesser brands which uses that rubbery white stuff in the filling.

I gave blood recently and was delighted to find Club biscuits on offer with my post-donation cuppa. Tasted every bit as good as I remember.

Maybe you just had a duff one?
