There's a great local band to me called Creme de Chèvre (....?Playing other people's songs in a silly way since 2008...). They aren't musical virtuosos, but they do a very good fun gig, with some creative Uke'ing and certainly don't take themselves seriously!

If you're going to go for it, aim for the top

This enthralls me every time I listen to it. Usually a few times a year when I feel like just giving up...

i got one for my birthday last week. its ace fun. tuning it is my biggest issue. I've ordered a tuner now though so hopefully that'll be sorted in the next few days.

i have a couple but they all use the microphone and with 2 kids and a dog the background noise makes them rather unreliable. I've been recommended one that clips to the headstock that senses the vibrations of the strings and so isn't as affected by background noise. seems pretty well regarded on this here internet too.

I got the snark ukulele one for about £9 maybe, takes about 20 secs to tune it up properly.

The beauty of the Guitalele is it uses exactly the same tuning and chords as a regular guitar, it's just a lot smaller.
There's a lovely little Yamaha one for around £55 or so.
Very, very tempted.
Topper, surely they don't go out of tune that quickly? Can't you tune it when it's quiet ready for later?

That would require some sort of organisation.
I have to keep it in a soft gig bag at the minute which doesn't help it stay in tune. When I have some spare cash I'll get a hard case to protect it a bit better. The guy in the shop said it'll lose its tune a bit when it's new but after a while it should be ok.
The snark tuner is what I've ordered. Seemed well reviewed.

Loving the Prodigy mash up 😀

Yep, as above tuning does settle down after a couple of weeks. I found this site useful starting out. I'm still rubbish 😆 but it sounds amazing when my son (who is a pretty accomplished guitar player) picks it up. More practise mama . . .

One tune two styles.

Lil' Rev (Get the strumalong book it's great!)

Aaron Keim (Great lessons and some books for Fingerpicking and clawhammer)

The Baritone uke is conveniently similar too. 4 strings tuned the same as standard top 4 on a guitar. Not as small as more common ukes, but still a lot smaller and lighter than a guitar.

Edit: Can't get at those vids from here, I'll have to come back when I'm at home!

I can sort of play the guitar, but I got rid of my electric and this looks fun lol. Will my sausage fingers struggle with one?

That's not quite true as the Guitalele is tuned to A (ADGCEA) like playing a guitar with a capo on the fifth fret. The top four strings are tuned as a Ukulele with a low G.
