MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
I had to delete my old version of iTunes to download 10.7. Now when I try and play any song the message: "The song [TITLE] could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" If I click on Locate, I can find the song and it plays, but I've got nearly 11,000 songs so can't do this for each one.
In advanced preferences, I'm pointing the Media folder location to where the actual music files are, so I don't know why iTunes isn't finding them automatically. I've got the "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised" button ticked also.
Any ideas? iTunes just does my nut in!
Go to File and then 'Add folder to library' - point it to your music folder and it should resolve that issue. (I think!)
Been doing something similar over the last week or so (not because of the 10.7 update either)
Set Itunes to store it's main directory where you want it (mine is on a different drive to the OS)
Drag and drop all of your directories into the folder "Automatically Add to ITunes"
Untick "Keep Organised"
ReTick "Keep Organised"
anything that goes awry will land in the "Not Added" Folder. I had some stuff in the Unkwon Artist/Unknown album folder that I had to manually fix the ID3 tags on but now it's all looking good.
Ok, that's now duplicating every song in itunes!
I have a plugin labelled "remove dead tracks" that gets rid of all of the exclamation pointed files from the itunes database. That should sort out the false duplicates.
Ok, I'm slowly getting my head around this. If I drag the library.itl and .xml files out of my iTunes folder, it opens up an empty iTunes. I then click Add folder to library and point it to the folder with all my media files (songs) in. This imports all my songs into iTunes and I can play them with no problems.
But, I have the default iTunes playlists only. How do I import my original playlists? I have them backed up in an external hard drive but if I drag them (the library.itl and .xml files) from there into my iTunes folder, it doesn't allow me to play the songs, and I go back to the same problem I posted about.
You need to copy those files you moved out back into the system - they keept track of your playlists, play count and ratings...so stick them in then do the untick/tick organise library option...
