£0.

Just added a load more in last week, so will have ~25% more tickets for October's draw.

£25, remarkable, the first win in about two years.

I was beginning to think someone had hacked my account and stolen all my bonds.

This has reminded me that I need to check mine after a four year spell of not checking.

125 here...as in 5x25. My mum won 500 last month, like 1x500.

It evens out, nothing the odd month, then an above avg win another. Overall happy as tax free c 1.5%.

Does the chance of winning go up with the rise in interest rates?

absolute rubbish

i don’t know why people expect any better. The odds are published, it’s not a certainty and it’s a random draw of a gazillion numbers that have been generated over something like 60 years. Even 50k of bonds is a small fish in a small pond.

If you expect gains, invest it properly.

I got 2x £5 bonds when born in 1977, and £1000 in 2012, won a grand total of £20. Is there any truth in the old wives tale that its better to get rid of old bonds and buy new?

It's a random number draw. More bonds have been bought in recent years than in the past so it gives the impression that newer bonds are chosen more often.

Does the chance of winning go up with the rise in interest rates?

Yes. Well, they change the number of prizes as interest rates change.
It went up recently from 1% expected return to 1.4% return (1 in 35,000 chance of winning down to 1 in 24,500 IIRC)

So, the prize fund rate goes to 2.2% from tomorrow.

Millenaraire chances from 1 in 24,500 to 24,000
18 up from 10 chances to win £100k
35 from 20 chances to win £50k
19 x more £100 and £50 winners

Good luck folks!

from tomorrow meaning next weeks draw?
19 x more £100 and £50 winners
as in 19 times more likely to win the small prizes? or am I reading this wrong?

The new rules start tomorrow and yes it’s effective for next weeks draw. Yes, 19 x more likely, you are correct.

Ah, what I've missed is the number of £25 winners has reduced.

For those that get regular wins, how much do you have invested ? I put in 10k almost 2 years ago, and have so far won £25. It’s nest egg emergency money but I do wonder if it’d be better elsewhere.

With my money I would be earning £75 a month in a Chase account. The most I’ve ever won is £50 so I’m really falling behind
However our friends won £100000 last month….

Why is the October draw on the 4th?

Was it delayed due to QE2 funeral?

Results are usually 2nd working day of the month - though I think big winners get notified the day before

You are well below average, £10k should be getting you £25 every 2-3months.
.
I'm stoozing some credit cards, got around £2k of my own in there and £15k of other people's money. Made £450 in two years from that, very slightly above average returns for that amount.

I've got around 30k. I'm up based on a £500 "win" a few months ago. At one point with interest rates being low they were worthwhile. Now starting to look less good.

Thinks like Zopa are up to 3.5% which means I'd "win" £1k+.

Also they changed the tax on interest so cash ISAs didn't matter as much if you were maxing out the limit. I think?

MSE has a good guide. From memory you need a decent chunk in premium bonds to turn the odds in your favour as most bonds don't win.

Not sure I'd invest anymore. More likely to go back to staggered fixed savings accounts.

The improvement in the chances of winning has its appeal. I average a £25 win per month at the moment. If my pb luck improves I think I'll add more to p bonds rather than 1.5% savings account.

The new system had to have its losers and that’s me. Just need to decide whether to pull them out to reinvest or stick with my position.

I’m on a streak, nothing again. I’ve got just over £12k in there and used to regularly win, I’ve now only had £25 in 18 months. Keeping it in as it’s easy access and fully safe, but think it’s time to start whacking my monthly DD in a savings account now instead.

Cock all. Annoying as I left a chunk of cash in there instead of paying it off the mortgage. So it's cost me a bit in interest.
