My wifi is connecting "local only" on my laptop meaning I can't browse. The wifi network is good as I am sending this from iPad on the same wifi. Can anyone point me in the right direction to where the problem might lie. The laptop has previously connected to wifi but it was a different provider.

Check to see it is configured to get it's ip address automatically. If it's got a fixed ip address and a default gateway that refers to the old internet supplier, it won't connect.

Make sure you've deleted the old network config. on the laptop.
Then, start again.

On windows 7, Open Network and Sharing Center, manage wireless networks, righ-click and remove.

He seems to be spending that on here though http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/adverts-1#post-6740606

Oh and BTW advice above is good - wifi and the network are two different things, you can get a perfect wifi connection, but be unable to see the network (I had that problem recently when turning off the DHCP to test another DHCP server 😳 )
