I've dusted the camera off and finally bit the bullet and bought a few new bits and was wondering if there's a photography version of STW?

I've done bits in the past - before digital was really popular I'd develop my own photos in the dark room at work etc. But I'm looking for somewhere else to distract me when on line and for going full on in to yet another hobby.

The dpreview.com forums are pretty good. Your don't get the bantz of STW and there is a higher proportion of idiots but by and large it's a good place to be

Dpreview

Just so crazy

Much more about gear then photography

A few days back I asked if iso should be defined for RAW. This is a crazy pointless geeky question. Popped back to find the thread had reached the 150 limit. Some one has started a new one which was in the 90s

It’s much quieter than it was. Lots of the action is in the open talk or comments on articles.

Oh and it’s easy to get banned. I think mine was for mentioning climate change. Morris who had the most posts ever got banned for posting photos.

I’m their all the time but it is mad

I dabble on here. Good place to post photos for constructive criticism and also to ask questions about gear etc

I can't recommend any but have you thought about podcasts?

I do realise that's a one-day discussion and not quite what you were asking - but there will be a WEALTH of very very good photography podcasts out there

Thanks all,I never thought of podcasts so I'll give them a go.

I've tried dpreview a couple of times for gear ideas, the format did my head in to be fair! (I may be a bit of a luddite with it though.

Top tip - if you;d like to improve your photography, stay away from both photography forums and gear related photography websites. It depends on what you're interested in of course, but most of those sites (DP Review being a prime examples) are interested in gear, not actual photography.

Lensculture is a good example of a site that is actually focused on image making.

Podcasts - I recommend Photography Daily and Fujicast. Despite its name, FujiCast is also interesting for non-Fuji owners. PD in particular is not at all about gear.

I have always wanted something like this as well.

Perhaps a copy of Wordpress and BBPress, like STW and off we go 🙂

Well me too, but it's a bit of a rarity to find a forum where, despite grumpiness and rhetoric, the inhabitants are just as likely to say "yes, I was wrong, sorry". STW is the only one I know.

(luminous-landscape used to have some good forums but they have been taken over by holy wars and alt-right politics)

I used to read https://blog.mingthein.com a lot and still go back to his articles every now and then. He's stopped writing new posts, but the depth and breadth of information there is astounding. I think he's as good a photographer as he is a writer.
