2D. It's entertaining, not shite, just not Alien.

No, it's pap. Biggest let down ever for me 🙁

eta: in the interest of fairness it's good to see how certain things are how they are in the later (earlier) films. Read about them though save your time. Mrs Pik of the same opinion but shes a hugggggeeeee fan of the Alien films.

You'll only be disappointed if you're wanting/expecting another Alien movie

I liked it. Stick it on, turn the volume up, possibly don't think about certain bits too much and you'll enjoy it.

Entertaining film if you don't over hype it. You can easily sit there and pick holes in it but that's the same with most films. "Willing suspension of disbelief" is the key in theatre and cinema (and love?).

Agree its not Alien, but...

stick with 2d and its worth watching (bit of fan myself)

I had the blu ray pop through my letterbox yesterday and the qualty of the blu ray is simply amazing, up there with Avitar on the quality stakes.

Also, if you have a decent surround sound at home, turn down the lights and crank up the sound 😉

It's not as good as Love Actually, but it's better than Avatar

2d HD is best. Its a good film if you compare it to Alien it may fall short..but how many other great films still fall short of Alien.

Definately worth watching i enjoyed it.

I thought it was excellent. Kept me entertained anyway.
Mind you I've since found out that I watched the extended ending version - apparently the cinema version left more unanswered q's.

It wasn't bad, not something I'd rush out to watch again, visually quite entertaining, don't begrudge the money I spent on the cinema ticket. 6.5/10

It's OK - visually interesting and some good ideas but it just doesn't quite hang together right and there are some silly bits in it.

It's watchable, but don't expect to want to watch it again afterwards. If you think of it as a bunch of completely separate scenes with nice special effects which don't really relate to each other or follow any particular narrative you won't be disappointed.

Expect to be entertained, and don't over-analyse it, and I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. I really enjoyed Sucker Punch, but my mate who I saw it with didn't because he was continually trying to psychoanalyse the characters, and second-guess their motives for doing things.

my post in the big thread after i went to see it:

Finally went to see it last night.

Thought it was alright.

Mrs Peterfile "was expecting better"

ha ha, she's quite the film critic these days 🙂

was good in 3D

(i didn't get the whole "thought provoking" thing though, it was pretty thin on that front IMO)

On a scale with Aliens at one end, and the latest Jennifer Aniston Rom Com at the other, it's kind of in the middle. Diverting enough, but zero classic lines, no big guns, no Michael Biehn, the creatures are about as scary as custard pudding, OK it has some space ships, which is nice. Wotsisname Fassbender is v good. Good self-performing abortion scene, not something I thought I would ever see.

This, except for the nod at Biehn in Aliens with the "David we are leaving!" line

I enjoyed it, but there was smidge of disappointment

Yes.

As a visual spectacle it's very good and there's entertainment to be had for certain, but the truth remains that narratively it's a flawed mess.

Visually its lovely. Sadly spoiled by what is clearly an awful studio edit. For me, it felt like half the film had been cut out to make it fit expected norms of film duration. I made the decision not to go and buy it for my collection, but I would be extremely interested to see what a 'directors Cut' would be like.

Best thing in it for me was Fasbender, who I felt was as 'benignly menacing' as any good Android should be.

As deluded & science officer above -

looks amazing but lacks a decent script and story.

I was very let down - I'm a massive sci fi fan (have been a huge alien/s fan), went with 5 mates (who aren't sci fi fans) & we all felt it was below par but all came out laughing as some bits were sooo bad. Story that doesn't make sense, trillion dollar science expedition that could have been better planned by a 6th form science class & a spaceship that is controlled by a penny whistle.

Worth a watch but don't get your hopes up. I saw it in 2D but theres no way any 3D fx can the issues its got. Save your money, drop all expectations & watch it in 2D.
