It's pretty expensive stuff so can I use normal soap flakes and get the same results?

I just use the Ecover delicate liquid. Seems fine.

I use pure soap flakes to wash waterproof clothing in however I do use the Nikwax reproofer it's worth it.

Normal soap rendered my Montane useless. Too light for any real warmth benefits and let water in after a few minutes of drizzle.
The Tech Wash followed by a soak in TX Direct worked really well in restoring it, I'd say it was worth the money if you want to keep your stuff waterproof/resistant etc.

I'm a fan of Grangers 2 in 1 Washer/Proofer, but then I am lazy. 🙂
