I've noticed that recently I tend to find myself (generally) in agreement with folks like TJ and elf more often than not. I'm sure it didn't used to be like that. Has my viewpoint changed that much, or is it that theirs has?

Not supposed to be an attention seeking thread, but I don't see any other way to ask this significant (to me) question without hijacking another thread. Would welcome comment from elf and TJ, or maybe anybody else who finds themselves agreeing (or disagreeing) with people they didn't used to. Is it an age thing - though I thought you were supposed to get more conservative (small c) as you got older?

your all rong.

and it's because you are getting older and as such turning into a militant liberal bickerer.

Must be you - my agree/disagree ratio is about the same I'd say..... but experience has given me a better eye for which threads will kick-off, eventually spiralling over an event-horizon of rage so I just tend to post less 😉

Well there is that - likewise I tend to ignore some threads nowadays, and they are probably the ones where I'd end up arguing against TJ.

Truth is, the same tired old topics get wheeled out again and again. After time, you see the pattern and just ignore them,

Do you mean in real life, or on here? I know some fail to discern a difference...

I don't care what a person has said in the past, or whether I'ver agreed or disagreed with them; if they say sumat I disagree with, I'll say so. If they say sumat I agree with, I'll say so. I don't go with 'I'll oppose them just because they're so-and-so', that's just petty and stupid. Pathetic really.

So, if someone I've clashed with previously sez sumat I agree with, I don't care that I've clashed with them in the past. That's irrelevant to the current discussion. And you'd be cutting off yer nose to spite yer face if you just took the opposing stance based on who they are.

I mean, even Hora sez sumat reasonably intelligent occasionally. Not very often though.

I do find certain individuals hold such opposing views to my own, that I am frequently disagreeing with them. But I spose they can't help being wrong; it's my duty as a member of Society to correct them, and hopefully they will learn the error of their ways.

Ultimately all but the most stupid and itchy-bottomed of people agree with me eventually.

They might not admit it, but deep down they know I'm actually right. 😐

Still, every now and then it's fun to get into an argument, even if you know it's not going to get anywhere. (Much as I like XKCD I refuse to repost the "internet is wrong" cartoon again!)

And as has been pointed out, the threads are exceptionally easy to avoid if you don't feel like it.

Didn't read Elfins' post, 'cause he's a knobber.

I have tried to be more moderate and try to avoid "the same tired old topics get wheeled out again and again"

So probably a mix of less points of contention rasised and less contentious points raised

Oh yes - I probably categorise those as "wind up TJ" rather than disagreeing with him though.

I think that the forum is to blame..

before I started using STW I would have gleefully and very firmly poked any sneering capitalist disciples of mindless consumerism that refused to eat humble pie directly and repeatedly in the eye..

now I realise that there aren't enough fingers or hours in the day..

I agree with TJ and Elfin on a lot of things. There's a few things I disagree with them though:

* Elfin - too soft on crime, he'd make a rubbish Batman

* TJ - doesn't like dogs, so is obviously a bit weird

If they sort out those attitudes they will be spared when I take over the world.

Ah - I wouldn't go so far as to say I dislike dogs, but the dog issue is one of the things where I tend to agree with him.

I with elf here - I don't do wind-up threads, on the few occasions TJ has actually been right I'm happy to say so 🙂

But you are not stupid, and obviously not as itchy-bottomed as some.

* Elfin - too soft on crime

Eh? How d'you work that out then? 😕

I'm usually somewhere near TJ's side, he's just a little extreme.

I don't see what Elfin says anymore 😉

Everyone says so*, so it must be true! 😛

*That you're soft on crime, not that you'd make a rubbish Batman. I've not actually heard any opinions on whether you'd make a good Batman or not.

Funny thing is, I agree that dogs should be trained and under control, and I appreciate that some people really don't like dogs bouncing up at them. But unfortunately only those that appreciate the awesomeness of dogs shall be allowed in my new world order. Sorry about that. *crosses aracer off the list of survivors*

I once claimed you were wrong about the awesomeness of cooking - I've since come around (this is technically an apology) and I love dogs... Survivor?

I totally disagree with both of them, all the time. But they're still cracking fellas. Apart from TJ. Who I've never met.

No, a few blinkered ignorant itchy-bottomed idiots think this, but they are in fact wrong. 😐

I am a better dancer than Philconsequence.

I also blame Binners. I have no choice but to do so.

Elf as Batman.. hmm.. strong sense of social justice - yes, also not afraid to get involved.. but he is rather short. Tough one that. I say we give him a trial and see how it goes. Bats are actually quite small after all.

I have tried to be more moderate and try to avoid "the same tired old topics get wheeled out again and again"

When I started reading I was going to post that TJ has calmed down and lightened up a lot.. see I recognise the efforts people make 🙂 Good stuff, group hugs all round etc

Bats also eat 1/3 of their bodyweight in insects a day.

Elf consumes 1/3 of his body weight in niche local beer each day I think.

When I went for a ride with elf he poked me with sticks and whipped the back of my legs with nettles 😥
Batman wouldn't do that.........

wow! I'm liking this thread muchly. It's like the chillout area for the child benefit main event.
Back OT: I do respect people that make a stand, even if they are maahoosively wrong. One day I'll probably start agreeing with TJ et al. After all an ice age is due, and I do live in hell.

big up people with an opinion

Now what's all this about Batman?

This is very possibly true.
