when avast automatically updated just now it said that there was a server error.have tried to manually update both anti virus and program,but the same message pops up.should i re install/download the program (have the free one) am a computer numpty.

just switched on the pc in our lounge
seems to be a new v6 released - maybe somehow that's stopping the "old" version updating. Open it up from the taskbar & update from the programme itself ?
Ah, good to know. Google seemed quiet on the subject, which is unusual because normally stuff like that lights up the forums like a Christmas tree.
