I think I understand how to do it, but tesco mobile don't allow this service. Is there a way around this as I have read you can get tethering apps?

It still needs the network to allow it, afaik. I could easily be wrong, O2 allows it, but I honestly don't know about others.

If you haven't got tethering allowed by your provider be careful as it uses up huge amounts of data which is easily spotted by them and you could get a huge bill.
